I would like to leave my juvies out all night in their grow out pen. They look fully feathered. I live in Stockton so lows are in the fifties at night. My husband thinks it's too early. What do you all think. They are 5 weeks old.

14 of them outside should be fine if they are fully feathered. They will huddle together at night and since the lows are in the upper 50s to 60s, it is not like there will be frost out.

Be prepared for them to kind of freak out the first couple of weeks though.

What do you mean they will freak out?
They seem to freak out when I bring them in every night. It takes them a while to settle down. Do they still need food and water all night? If I bought them a coop could I just stick them in there over night without food and water?

Where did you get D'anver eggs to hatch???? would LOVE some here. i am in sonoma county. i have 1 d'anver and she has no friends (except me and i spoil her ROTTEN!)

No, they don't need food and water if there is no light. They will roost/sleep all night. Mine live outside full time since the time a bring them home. They live in the grow out pen inside the main run. I turn off the heat once they are 3-4 weeks depending on weather. I currently have seven 6 week olds that have been in the main coop since they were 4 weeks old no heat. My 8 little almost three weeks old will have one more week of heat than the lamp gets turned off at night (already turned off during day). With the warm weather we are getting this week your chicks will be just fine. Plus there are plenty of them to cuddle with at night. My first set of chicks I had 13 ranging from 3-5 weeks old and I kicked them out of the house when the temps were 70 deg day and high 40 nights.
They just cuddled for warmth at night and were happy roaming the pen during the day.

I hatched d'anver eggs this year from @chickee. I believe she's in Grass Valley & we met up near Auburn.
I also am not keeping the ones I hatched. I have 4, 1 gray and 3 tan/gray. Not sure of gender yet, they are 3 weeks old. I am in Fairfield.
