No I have not. it is better to breed a pair together because they are very rare. I am one of the only 5 people in the united states who has a breeding pair and I also have a trio of unrelated juveniles. I do have crested cream legbars. I can breed them together or with ameracaunas.

I am interested in Pene. Probably will wait til Spring, the fall is just to busy with to many other things for me. Any pictures by chance? Dont know that they are as rare as you claim, a few members in this thread have them as well.

The lady that I get my eggs from only has one chicken that lays those dark, dark eggs so you get one in a dozen pack. They are so pretty! Are these Pene the only breed that lay such dark eggs?

Marans, wellsummer and barnvelder chickens lay dark eggs too. They are the main breeds folks will have. Penedesenca lay very dark eggs too.

Ah! Thank you, Ron! I will want to get these breeds when I get more room for my own layers.

I seem to be Maran hatch challenged. I did manage to hatch 3 pullets (2 splash & 1 blue) from eggs that I got from Dawn and 1 FBCM pullet from eggs that I got from Shantih. Here are a few pics of the girls from Dawn.

The blue pullet does not have feathered legs.

This splash pullet has a few dark markings on her other side but she is mostly white.

My Wellsummers are photo bombers and I kept having to push them out of the way. This splash girl is the biggest and prettiest of the 3.

Aw I want some Wellies and your pitas look nice too.

So is there any call for clean legged marans? Neal has what appears to be a clean legged marans cockere
l This was him a month ago and he has grown much nicer now. Very pretty bird but clean legs

I just want them for dark eggs so it doesn't matter to me if they are clean legged. Dawn said that the clean legged one will probably lay the darkest eggs!

Here is a pic of our favorite young bird this year. This is Mr. Truffles a bantam mottled cochin we hatched from eggs from Dyann. He is crowing but it is high pitched and not very loud so hopefully my husband won't notice! Monet loves him and we are planning on getting some girls for him!
