Have you tried clipping the flight feathers on one wing of the younger ones to keep them on the ground?

I have a pullet that must have broken her wing at a young age and I didn't notice it. She is healthy and happy, but when I let all the girls out of there jails this one still tries to fly out and usually she either flies into the gate or does a roll over and hits the ground. Years ago I had chickens and clipped just one wing and mine couldn't fly. Kern

I am possibly (most likely) getting a buff Brahma Bantam pullet from my cousin @Chrysolinsbirds to keep my lonely OEGB pullet company since she is the only bantam I have amongst the big girls that I have. I can't wait to see her on Sunday.

Christmas early! Kern

Yes sir!! I love getting new chickens. It's better than getting new shoes (which I love also)

Amen to that! Just got 3 new Silkies today, two chicks and a beautiful Red Partridge cockerel (emphasis on the red... he's hardly even Partridge! Almost Black-Tailed Red like an RIR). No better feeling than the one you get on the way to pick up some new birds...

Also - still looking to find LF Red Cochins and now LF Buff Cochins, if anybody in the area has them.

Do you all quarantine all your new birds? What type of precautions do you take.
Yes, Quarantine is important!

They get dusted and wormed. They are separated for the two weeks for the worming and dusting. During that time they are observed for illness symptoms.

Of course I hatch mine now so I have not had new live birds here for about 4 years now.

What do you dust and worm with. How many days do you do it.

Yes for minimum of 1 week for chickens, but we kept our 2 female geese away from our gander for a few months. Not really bc of quarantine but I think we were a bit wary of how he would be with them. Turned out he was great:)We raise our own quail and ducks. Probably will do the same next Spring if we decide we want more chickens.

Quote: Valbazen for worms-one day of treatment repeated after 7 to 10 days.

Poultry dust is good--You can get vegetable dust from walmart that is the same thing. It used to say poultry but they removed it from the label. You hold them by the feet upside down and dust their bottom. Repeat after 7 to 10 days.

There are other ways to treat but that is a minimum. If you see bugs on them after that, it is time for the bigger stuff--Elektor or frontline.
