This was the day for egg pics! I have 3 Marans pullets from Dawn and 1 from Shantih. Their eggs rate from 5-7 on the color scale. Here is a plate full of some of the darkest ones.

Guess we found at Costco today? It's a chicken book by Jan Brett! It's called Cinders A Chicken Cinderella. The illustrations are beautiful and are of lots of different breeds! I was so excited to see a black Langshan in the mix! The author/artist has chickens herself and she used her own Phoenix hen & rooster as the models for Cinderella & the Prince. You can buy it on Amazon, too, but Costco has it for a little less.

Note the beautiful black Langshan!

Check out the Silkie fairy godmother!!! Tee hee!!!

what a gorgeous display! i have 11 in the incubator....wednesday is the day! oh and one in the henhouse. after her winter break she just started up and i had forgotten just how gorgeous they were! NICE photo

Hi Dawn, how is the wine biz? I missed seeing everyone at the the Heirloom festival this year. I am such a wimp. t was over a hundred degrees that weekend so I decided to stay home and lay low. Beautiful eggs! I have have really boring eggs, only beige and white. Im thinking about adding a few breeds to my layer flock this year for some added color.
Wine biz is good. Sold our first commercial crop (Zinfandel) this year as well, so now I feel like a real farmer. I have been working on the Splash Marans egg color, and got some straight blues from Bev Davis last year to add back in, so the egg color is darkening up nicely in my flock.

I'm so pleased my girls are doing so well! Splash Marans aren't the darkest layers on the Marans chart, but adding back in a few splash and straight blues (not copper) from Bev Davis has helped infuse more color into my line. Yippee!! Inky, below, is one of my favorite girls!

She is beautiful!!! I'm going to try to get a pic of my 3 pullets that I hatched from your eggs. They used to hang out together but the darker splash girl has branched out and now hangs out with some of the other girls.
