I have these tiny red creatures crawling all over the run. They look like worms but they move like caterpillars. Anybody know what these are?

Ewwww! Larva of some kind? I hope someone chimes in with an answer for you! Do your birds eat them?

I have been looking online but can't seem to figure out what they are...they are in the soil & the run but at least not in the coop. They are annoying because they keep crawling into the chickens' food & water.

I have been keeping my sick hen in the run by herself but she has not been eating. Haven't seen the other chickens eat them either; they are pretty small. My chickens are kinda picky about what they will eat though.

Do you see dirt tubes?

The look a bit like termite larvae.

Hello fellow CA chicken lovers,
I just realized that there are state related subgroups of BYC. I'm in Merced, CA and decided to follow the Northern CA group because our climate here is close to that of the northern, rather than the southern part of our state.
We have a few laying hens now, and some 1-5 wk old chicks, and 30+ eggs to hatch this weekend.
I've been buying chicks & eggs for hatching and have a few little roos I'd like to sell or trade locally. Other than CL, is there another website anyone here has used successfully? I don't have enough posts to list them on BYC yet.
Also, what should I ask for 5 wk old BC Marans or OE and EEs of the same age.?
I'd love to keep them all, but it just isn't practical as we are raising hens for eggs.
All helpful advise is appreciated.

I have a question that I believe I know the answer to, I'm just double checking. Since I am not NPIP certified I can not ship adult birds or chicks, but I can ship eggs, correct?

The only places I have sold birds from is CL and here. I don't know of any other easy to use websites like those. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Someone in the neighborhood has lost a young barred rock boy. I caught him and have him caged anyone want him. He is probably hatchery stock and still very young not sure if he crows yet.

I need someone to take him off my hands. I cant really keep him but I thought it would be better than having him roam the neighborhood and eventually cause trouble for my flock.
