Yes it does!

The make a big difference. Woodland now has river water and it is 80% less hard so I do not need to use the calcium filter this year. I did use them for the last two years.

I seem to have another problem, the 5 naked girls I took, one of them thinks she is a rooster. She jumped on the really naked on. What in the world do I do about that? She pulls the neck feathers out that she is growing. I have never had this problem. I'm wondering if I should just get rid of her. Rae

Does anyone know about chick down color combos and chicken genetics in general

Ive had 2 mix breed chicks from my Buff Orps (yellow Chicks) 1 crossed to a CLB (wild type patter) 1 to a Pita Pinta (mostly yellow or white with some spots)

I expected some form of mottled or muddy yellow pattern. Well both of these chicks came out pretty much Chocolate brown. The legbar one developed some very interesting feather patterns
she is the one inf front and the right the newest chick the pita (no pics yet) is almost the same but more light on the chest. Im really confused about the leg color too.





Would there be anything I could do to get that color pattern on the legbar buff hybrid to stick. Ive considered hatching more of them just to see where this goes and what the pairing is like.
She is so friendly and pretty. I cant wait to see how the Pita Buff cross turns out.

Leg color is a bit funny to me here too since parents have white or yellow legs and chicks look to have greenish. I know its not a mix with my EE because my EE's dont lay brown eggs.

Everyone has different thoughts. But for me, after 5 years of having backyard chickens I no longer tolerate bullies no matter how natural a thing it is to dominate or bully. My girls either play "nice" or they're outta here! Hey, I've cycled through 14 chickens in 5 years to get down to the 4 compatible girls I have now. My 2 Silkies are the oldest in the group and the 2 LFs submit to them and I like it that way. The 2-lb Silkies can't hurt the 4-lb LFs if there's a standoff.

Neal had a silkie that was laying eggs started crowing and is now a full fledged male. Pretty sure the other female is laying fertile eggs I hatched one for him long after the other male died. He had the 3 birds in the same pen and would often get 2 eggs per day. Weirdest thing to have happen. The bird is affectionately called Tranny now.

I have heard that females will often take on rooster duties after a male leaves the flock. But this sounds a bit much.

You should get rid of her if this continues. Bully birds dont last long at my place either. You can put her with other birds or isolate her for a while to rejumble the pecking order and that might put an end to it. Or put her with a real roo and she may learn quick.

okay, I agree, she is scratching the naked ones back, too... it makes me angry.... I have 14 Australorps for over a year and none of mine behave in this manner. Thank you so much...Now I don't feel so bad about my feelings....

Hey all so the hatching bug has bit me and now that things are coming to an end it's almost that time to start finding homes for our little roosters. I don't know how many we have yet but I'm trying to get ahead of the game. We are trying to find forever homes where they can rule the roost. Sorry no freezer camp lol.
