happy chooks had a bobcat get most of her flock a year ago. Once they find dinner they often keep coming back
I hope you find someone!Does anyone know a falconer willing to take on an apprentice? I want to get into it, but I can’t find a sponsor. I’m in Staninlas County.
Welcome!Hi everyone,
I’m in unincorporated Los Gatos in the Santa Cruz mountains (on the Santa Clara County side). I thought there was a “Bay Area” thread, but can’t find it. I hope you don’t mind me crashing this thread, but I consider myself a Northern Californian AND a Bay Area resident. So how did everybody’s flock do with the heat today, and what temperature did you reach?
I think we peaked at 98 and my flock was not happy. Every time they found a new place in the yard, I brought them iced water and I hope it helped. Which breeds took it the hardest? I noticed my Light Brahma, Speckled Sussex, Silver Laced Wyandotte and Barred Rock open mouth breathing, moving slowly, and wings held out. It didn’t even seem to phase my Brown Leghorn one bit!
They will be fine! 110 is very hard on themMisters and fans here, too, but they preferred to find their own cool spots under trees in the cool dirt.
