Have you heard of Princeton? I’m neighbors with the post office!Colusa county is one county North of Me!
What city will you be close to?
The Princeton Ferry location? It sounds like a nice placeHave you heard of Princeton? I’m neighbors with the post office!
If you haven’t, I’m nearest to Colusa itself, I think!
I hope you find homes for them!I have a pair that are bonded and need to go to a new home together. Our Roos just refuse to find balance.
Foxy and Dale are part of the Rescue Rangers we received after several coon attacks to some feral/wild chickens in Berry Creek, a tiny mountain town. They were part of a very large clutch, but the six we received (we later lost one to a rat breaking in) were the only survivors.
As Chip is the head Roo, and the rest of the girls are nested up with him each night, we had to make the decision that Dale would be the one to go.
Chip is fine with taking in Foxy, but she gets along so well with Dale, and Dale calms with her by his side. I eventually noticed he makes all the little courtship signs towards her that Chip makes to his girls, though he’s a slightly younger cockerel than Chip is.
•Foxy (Foxglove)• is skittish around people - they both are - but with more time, it can continue to improve. If she’s scooped up and brought inside where it’s quiet (no tv, etc), it takes very little time for her to settle in on my chest and relax into me. I talk quietly, describing her feathers and feet while I pet her or trace her sharp little nails. She’s fallen asleep sitting on me more than once.
•Dale• is less panicky about people and more… evasive. Once you catch him from inside the cage (for predator issues, everyone is in metal cages and then wrapped; they spend the full day with run of the property and protected by a large dog who is serious about his job, but both Roos cannot be out at the same time) he complains about being held *vocally* but doesn’t struggle. He HAS footed me before in an effort to get away while I was (stupidly) milling around in front of his cage, which he very much wanted back into, and away from me. LOL
He *has* chased some of the other girls around, but that didn’t start till he actually saw Chip was their Roo. I was hoping that maybe we could accomplish a two-run system to keep both of them, and split some of the hatchery girls off to be Dale’s, but he’s too interested in trying to take Chip off his rank whenever he sees him. They’ve gotten to the point of bloody faces and bloody feet through differing sides of a mesh & metal run I had tried out for allowing everyone to have a day out of cages at the same time.
So. No go on two runs being a solution.
As these •are• rescues and “pets”, sleepaway freezer camp homes aren’t being considered. They’d make a lovey breeding pair for anyone interested in starting their flock, or wanting a beautiful Roo, though. You can see from Chip what he will grow to look like.
I apparently didn’t get pictures of Dale on this trip, so I will have photos of him in about two weeks.
