California - Northern

A weird occurrence happened today. Out at the coop almost all the chickens were standing next to the coop surrounding and looking at what I think was one of the other chickens. (I was at a distance) I heard a LOUD clucking. bok bok bok bok puu-kahhhh bok bok bok bok puu-kahhhh over and over and over and over oh my gosh it just kept going on and on. I tried to sneak up slowly but eventually they made me and dispersed. I didn't see any mating going on. I didn't see any animal on the ground...or egg...weird!!

Ron, your photos on the CA thread made me smile, even though they were depicting a sad situation for the chickens.

I posted on the CA thread about me shipping off my chickens to be butchered, yesterday, at New American Poultry. I wanted to show how they came back-didn't want to offend anyone on that thread-so thought I would post the pic here. Warning-it's gross!

EEEEEeeewwwwww! LOL! I don't think that I can eat these! They're lookin at me! They even still have the leg bands on ROTFLOL!
Oh wow those actually look fantastic! You should see the one I did yesterday- I couldn't get all the darn black pin feathers. Strong kitchen shears and cut the heads right off. A sharp knife around the joint above the feet and they will come off easy too. Those are the two easiest cuts for me! hahaha!

Umm wait...did they gut these??? They must have done it all from the rear entrance? lol

Sounds like either a hen is going to give you an egg soon or they saw a predator or thought they saw one. Sometimes my whole flock will sound off like that because one silly bird thinks there is something "important" that needs to be "talked" about.

Those don't look toooo bad.. but I'd have a tough time cooking them with the feet and heads on. Maybe the processor caters to more "ethnic" groups that require WHOLE chickens including heads and feet? Maybe you could specify what you want done next time? Just finish processing them to your "tastes" and make some really nice chicken soup. Soup sounds really good right now especially since the weather cooled off so much:)

Yay my image made it into the calendar! Woohoo! My little Easter Eggers from Ron! haha!

I knew this one would make it! Love, love, love these two!
Quote: Me too. I just took the light off the baby Marans and moved them into the grow out pen last week. Then lost one so there's only two and then the rain, so I moved them into the big coop (they've been free ranging together for a week) last night where it was warm from all the chickens in there.
So nervous. I am having a Sulmtaler rooster shipped to me from Arizona. First time I am having an adult bird shipped. So nerve racking but what's one to do? I have two Sulmtaler girls and no boy. Hope the weather cooperates as this boy ain't ever seen rain. LOL

I'm sure he'll be fine. Much better then the heat we had.

(removed the pic in case someone doesn't want to look at it again) Did they just kill them and remove the feathers? Did they take the insides out?

One of those girls is going to produce an egg now that they've heard they're calendar girls! Have you ever heard the term "egging you on"? That's what the other chickens are doing!

Good! I was trying to make you feel better. I think I did bother some with that post. I blame my father for my sense of humor....

My mil decided to hang out with me while I was processing the one chicken yesterday. My youngest son was 'filming' the entire session. I made the dead chicken dance, do yoga stretches etc. Ahh sick sense of humor. I don't know where it comes from. The dark side of Amy? What did you do over there? I gotta know now! hehe
