Ahh I've been too busy to process the remaining cockerels. I'm about ready to CL them for free. It's such a huge process to get kill, bleed, gut...I watched a video on skinning and I need to do that. They are too old to pluck since they have black feathers. Not pretty! haha

Do you guys think that egg was actually from my banty Wyandotte hen? It was small and a warm beige color- very much like a Buff Orp egg. But the Buff's egg would likely be larger. Unless their first eggs are that small?

Woohoo Lookee what I got!

Buff orp egg on left and duck egg on right. Yeah baby!
Excuse my typos. Sent from my iPhone.

It's about time Amy Beth :D CONGRATS .. I'm glad she started laying before winter...

Yes, the first eggs are that small LOL. They are prized by bakers though. They often have more yolk to white and are a bit creamier. The white is a bit "stiffer" too.

Since the Banty Wyantottes were laying but molting, they will lay them in the nest boxes(more likely any way). You do have dummy eggs in the nest boxes? Golf balls work nicely.

Silly question...my bantam hen is really teeny. Like 2 pounds maybe. Can/will my big roosters mate her? Will it hurt her? If she goes broody and has laid any eggs over the fall- I was going to let her sit on them and hatch them but I would be horrified if I ended up with bantam BLW/Marans mixes? lmbo! It just doesn't even look possible...lol. She is really tiny. It's like a turkey mating with quail impossible looking.

It might be a bit rough on her, but bantams and large fowl will find a way to get the job done. It might can be pretty funny to see a tiny bantam rooster trying to mount full sized hens LOL. Where there is a will....there is a way.

lmbo! My poor Lady (my banty's name). I hope the big fellas will leave her alone. Foghorn (banty roo) is very sassy with the big roosters and they listen to him so they might have to deal with him. I need to re-home my big guy soon.

Ha, I was wondering the same thing about a bantam roo and a large fowl bird. I just got a roo from Miss Molly that carries the chocolate gene and some lovely ladies (YAY! thanks so much) and then got two beautiful black orps from Cheryl among other things: MF leghorns!!! (thanks you too so much!!) and then I got some very cute chocolate orp chicks from Allison (my third THANKS so much!!!). and well I am also coming home with 21 roos packed on ice, close to 6 dozen eggs (still not quite sure how that happened: thanks Cheryl, Stacey, and Sheri), a flock of buff and gold laced brahmas, a lav orp, and 2 silkies from Stacey at Thistledown. let's just say that every dollar that I have made to pay for my feed this month has been spent and then some! But, i do have some beautiful birds and will have a lot of chickies in a few weeks!! And I think, hope, and pray that no more chickens will make it onto my prooperty in the next 6 months that I havent hatched from my own eggs. This was an eventful weekend. The only sad thing was not getting a truckload of $14/bag feed from Echo Valley Feed. Just couldn't squeeze it in.

Thanks Again to Molly for the hours of chicken chat and being so generous!! Look forward to getting you some great hatching eggs soon and doing my best to feed your collection. :) (BTW, I was so close to trying to come and pick up those brooders but just couldn't swing it!)
Thanks Sheri for always hooking me up with more silkie and sizzle eggs than I know what to do with.
Thanks Cheryl for meeting up with me and though I was said to see that beautiful blue partridge brahma pullet go, I know you will do great things with her! And i'm excited about my MF leghon and Choc Orp projects that you were able to help me out with.
Allison, those chicks look great. My kids were so happy to see them and their brown little legs. I think they will get a lot of kid attention at my place. Thanks for taking them to Cheryl!
Stacey, thanks for letting me wipe you out of brahmas on behalf of me and Mike and for my orp girl and cute little slikies, the kids second favorite. And thanks to your son for chasing them all over the property with me to catch them!

Great little norcal chicken community. Goodbye sacramento area (the land of chicken plenty), it's back to redding and the land of chicken lacking... although amy beth, mike, and I are doing our bit to change that!!
