California - Northern

Pics
Hello all,
Nice to see all the folks from Cali in here.... my $0.02 is that N.CA kind of starts at some fuzzy line midway through the S.F. Bay area... I live in Vallejo and have been raising chickens for 3 years now... I have 16 girls ; 1 buff orpington, 1 red sex link, 1 black sex link, 1 australorp, 1 partridge cochin, 1 faverolle, 1 danish brown leghorn, 1 gold laced wyandotte, 1 cuckoo maran, 3 americanas, 4 welsummers

I have them on a complete Certified organic diet as I have found us silly Cali folks will compensate me the difference for my trouble in obtaining certified organic pellets and scratch.. I use no chemicals in the garden, lawn. fruit trees or flower gardens... I buy my organic feed and scratch at powell brothers feed in Vallejo or the feed supply in Napa... Good folks in both places... use lots of DE everywhere and use natural pest controls i get from www.gardensalive.com. Make all my own compost, well the girls help

and learning by trial and error on things... It's fun learning to garden with the girls in mind and even what i grow in the flower garden.

I have worked out of Shasta and McCloud for 5 years working with the Forestry svc. on PIT projects! I have a cat named Siskiyou and she came home to NM with me from Yreka. I LOVE that area!!!!

Bebop I'm right next door in Chaparral NM, I love it here. CA is nice and I see why you miss it, but give it chance, you might be surprised. This area is great for animals.

I'm in the Central Valley, in Fresno, specifically. Sometimes Fresno is considered Northern Cal, sometimes Southern. Who knows where the cutoff is?

New to BYC, what a great place! We went to the Stockton show, we got some of the most beautiful new flock members (silkies, a mille fleur roo and a cochin) thanks to other BYC members! We cant wait to go to more shows now- we used to go shows, before they were suspended, then we had to protect our babies/hens and we quit buying/looking at outsiders. Anywhooo - As to the conversation, I'm geographically challenged and confused  - Born in Concord, CA, then lived in Yuba City,CA from age 3-5, Humboldt Co. (Redway, CA) until age 10, West Covina, CA (Los Angeles) age 10 - 13 yrs, Santee, CA (San Diego) 13-22 yrs old, and now Chico, CA (Butte County), from age 22 to 45 yrs old)..and our property is actually in Forest Ranch, CA - about 14 miles from Chico? I have lived the longest in "Northern California", but I feel the most at home in Redway/Humboldt County, where my sister still lives!
I wish I knew for sure if the Poultry show is happening in February in Humboldt County...Any Humboldt Poultry Fanciers here?
A friend reminded me today there is a "Central California Valley" so I read this thread - Hmmmm, Where am I , where do I live? I vote for Northern California!! Tina

Hey Tina, I know exactly where you live!

We have a cabin up in Chester, and drive through Forest Ranch on our way out of Chico.

Cool! Actually, I live several miles off of the highway, waay before Forest Ranch, at a lower elevation in the foothills, and its awesome! We get to Chester several times a year, we 4x4, go camping, and go geocaching! Never a dull moment! Gotta love this stuff!
