Thank you. That sounds doable. I think a backup would be good.
Thanks, Ron!
Oh nice! Thanks!

I will definitely save up for the incubator. I think a backup is really essential. I would hate for a broody to get unbroody in the middle of her shift.

I had a broody hatch chicks today. I will take pictures tomorrow ... Thought I would let her finish before I bug her ... ;) she is a great Mom ... Third time this year...:P

Ohhh I cannot wait to see pics of this! Wow go mama hen! LOL

My Son has been bringing me dump truck loads of horse manure from a ranch down the road. I am adding it to my garden, putting it around the trees etc.
The Chickens love it. They are going crazy peeking around in it. As we are shoveling wheelbarrow full... they are going to town on the pile , a few hens have jumped in the wheelbarrow and went for a ride.. I had no idea they would love it.. ;).

One of the reasons that I have a mobile coop out on pasture with my livestock is so the chickens can help spread the manure. I don't feed grain to my herbivores, so they don't get grain from the manure. I do think that they help with parasite control of the larger stock by doing this.

Happy Chooks- go pip go!

Molly, congrats on the chicks.

Wow there has been alot of posting today.... I do not like this time of year in regards to my chickens. Dark when I leave. Dark when I get home. I dont like looking around in my coops with flashlights but you do what you have to.

AGREED! and I've got about 20 Tolbunt Polish that are DUMMER THAN STUMPS!! I have to go out with a flashlight and put most of them in the coop. They huddle together in a big pile on the ground....

Mine are good about going to bed except the first week after I start letting them out to free range they can never find their way back in the coop....they're all in the tree next to coop but on the wrong side of the fence because they can't find the gate on the other end of the coop! I've excused them by saying they can't see due to their large crests!
