Dawn, I'll send you an email right now.

Oh and Lil' Joe isn't so little anymore, is he? Are you going to start calling him Joeseph now that he's becoming all grown up?

NOpe. He is named after a friend of ours--a tall redhead Irishman from Minnesota. And Lil' Joe has nothing on Big Joe!

but you are right...Joe is getting pretty big. He is still respectful of me, so I am satisfied with that. (He wasn't snuggly even as a chiclet...) So good with his ladies. But all chickens were super-silent today when Mr Icelandic (previously known as Butthead) went to a new home...

If I thought they could think, it would have been, "Jeepers, who knows who is next? We'd better be on best behavior!". Six chickens rehomed today. Feels more mellow now, I must say...

Hi from Santa Rosa, new member here and complete chicken addict....

Proud mama of 3 laying hens; (an astralorp, a bantam barred rock, and an easter egger) 1 cow, 2 steers, 1 Aussie, 1 odd eye cat, and tired mama of 3 barred rocks, 10 speckled sussex (other wise known around here as the lap chickens) 2 Dominiques, 6 easter eggers, 2 golden laced wyandottes, 2 silver laced wyandottes, 2 black bantam cochins (one frizzle) one buff cochin, one blue cochin, a silly cuckoo marans, 2 dark brahmas, and 5 iowa blues.

My husband is a chicken enabler. We started with 2 back yard coops and a run, and are now working on converting one of the horse pens and stalls to a large luxury condo.

Welcome again, to this thread! I admit to hanging on both threads (pun intended) as there is good stuff on both for those of us here in Sonoma County!
Sounds like chicken math at work on you!

Wolftracks-I'm in Livermore, and just now coop shopping. I'd love to get some girls soon. My problem-the kids want fuzzy fuzzy cute cute, but I can only have females (city limits). How soon can you tell a sex?

With these mixes, pretty young. I'm going to the A's game on the 29th so I'll be going through Livermore on my way.

Here's a pic of a few just hatched the 24th

I can do my best to pick out pullets and if you get a roo, I'll trade you for a pullet later

OK I had a few hatches last week/ Have another due the 29th and the next will be on the 2nd. Not doing to good building up my stock with shipped eggs though and my FBCMs are I think, just to huge to hatch out. Very frustrating.

My little quail who are 4x the size they were 5 days ago

Hi again, and thank you for your offer! I have 3 young EE chicks and just got 2 older Houdans yesterday, so I am at my max. I can't get more unless someone turns out to be a rooster and needs replacing. Thanks again!

Hi Wolftracks,

I have been reading that shipped eggs are having very low hatches this year. The theory is that the Post Office is xraying more than normal for security reasons and sterilizing the eggs.

Interestingly, a guy on the California chickens yahoo group just hatched three out of six Trader Joes eggs. go figure....

They're short-staffed, too. That can't help how they're handling packages.

I've spent more money than I could afford the past year and recieved boxes so bad, some were even smashed in half. Just depends on the handling as to it I get a hatch from them or not.

One of my broodies came out of the box with 2 chicks this morning. One more still sitting and one that has 3 that are almost a month old I think. Almost time to grab those up and take them to the auction. Unless I get a really nice pullet. They pattern out so nice I hate to get rid of any, but trying to keep the numbers down since I have all of the pure breds to have to house.

I have a hatch due tomorrow. Sure hope some of my FBCMs hatch.

I think my Lavendar pips&peeps pullet is about to lay!

Also the one Wellie Pullet I got out of an earlier hatch. My roo is dancing around, but not sure I'm going to use him yet. I may put her into the coop with El Guapo, my Pene roo. I finally also have a bantam Wellie roo, so now I can put all of my hens and pullets together and add him.

Hoping I get soome Silver Penciled Rocks this hatch. Only 2 eggs made it and they're iffy, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have some pretty Olive Eggers growing out. I can't wait to mix the roo in that I'm going to use for breeding more. He was from lavendar lines, but was silver and now changing. I really love this roo. He's a sweetheart too.

Not sure what's going on with my Silkies. They were the first to start laying this year and stopped. Weird.
