How does your run stay dry? Because I have serious dry envy right now. My silly chickens were out in the rain today looking like absolute drowned rats. Sopping wet.
Awesome!up until this weekend, the run had stayed completely dry -- the trees above tend to keep the rain dripping straight downward, rather than slanted, so it doesn't really get in -- then that big rain and wind came blowing through in the last few storms, and everything was sopping -- but the *chickens* stayed dry, because they can always retreat to their upstairs-from-everything henhouse, which stayed completely dry inside, except where rain got blown through the vents. so, soggy deep-litter floor in the run right now, but i have the feeling that will dry out after tonight's rain, and otherwise they seem quite content.
in case anyone is interested, i've written a few pieces recently for one of the local papers -- one op-ed of sorts, which now the fourth thing you find when you scroll down on this page:
http://www.westmarincitizen.com/index.php/home/drakes_bay_oyster_company_/
and if you keep scrolling down, you'll find a "conversation" of sorts when one of the pro-wilderness folks responded to my op-ed with a letter, i responded to that, got another response to THAT, and i wrote one more piece after that.
and working this evening on a brief comment about the decision from last week... with another bit of rain moving in!
Excellent articles, Laura! So nice to read something that backs an opinion with facts and logic, stated in a calm and respectful manner. You should give lessons! Oh wait, you're a teacher. Yay you!

You can brood serious numbers of chicks in a Stock Tank. Should we start a pool on how many chickens, Ducks and Geese Amy will have next year?![]()
