California - Northern

Ron simply live the daily digest. A fun read everyday. So glad the storm is over. Left with crazy muddy runs that I need some new solutions for. Shipped out all my eggs today so nothing to incubate. Woo hoo! My break is almost here.

Ron simply live the daily digest. A fun read everyday. So glad the storm is over. Left with crazy muddy runs that I need some new solutions for. Shipped out all my eggs today so nothing to incubate. Woo hoo! My break is almost here. Oh and Amy Beth crazy good pics. Love them. Pam, unreal. So sorry. Shantih, eggs a coming. Ron, ahhh I'm trying to figure it out. My parents are not coming this weekend after all. :-( anyone planning a sac area/redding adventure? Or vice versa? Will they push you out of house and home if its not till the 14th weekend?

Zoo you should post your rooster pictures in the hatch a long photo of flying bird contest, think its open to non hatchers. This way I wont be tempted to go out and take a thousand photos and try to win.

Roosters always have favorites, but its cute when the hens do. My little showgirl Ester only loves Iggy her brother. Iggy is more equal oppurtunity. But the first time I got more silkies, she would chase them away when Iggy tried to romance them. They would run from him, then from her... too funny.

Mario calls her a little lannister.

Looks like we are going to get more rain any minute now, hopefuly it wont get too crazy wet.

Those of you who use the plastic numbered bands to mark your birds, what size do you recommend I get for LF Langshans and Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks?
Rocks should get the large ones whatever that number is. Langshans are big too?

The bands are cheap enough, so get several sizes so that you can change them as the get bigger.

Glad to hear everyone survived the storm, although sorry to hear about so much damage. We had a power outage for over 36 hrs staring around 5am Sunday over quite a large area. The PG&E crews were out trying to find where the problem was. That took the majority of the time. All this technology and you'd think there would be a faster way to find the problem in the line! Anyway, very happy to have running water (especially lovely hot water) and cold refrigerator again.

Quote: Wow! 36 hours without power. I don't think my battery backup would work that long. I would be setting up in the car!

Yes, the next digest is almost ready.

We started off with baby chick pictures from debs_flock. Serama chicks can be as small as a 9V battery!

A tree fell on Bigdaddysmom’s DD and SL’s former house! Luckily it was going to become a rental so no one was living there. Well maybe a Hobbit or two…you never really know do you?

Feathersprings has Silkies ordered! And will be shipped from PA. Praying for them to arrive safely.

Ronott1 posted about Barred Holland chickens(again..Give it a rest ok?) and Sand Hill Preservation has us worried about their fulfillment methods.

Zooweemama will be working hard on the new coops now that the storm is over. Others will be working on those leaky nest boxes. Capayvalleychick liked the carpet runner picture.

Sand Hill Preservation was discussed. The new catalog will be coming out soon and a couple of us will be ordering from them.

Zooweemama topics: Flying Leghorns, tossing treats on the ground, coop foundations and fermenting grains. Great topics! Keep them coming.

Tommysgirs is getting Swedish Flower Hens from PapaBrooder this Spring!

PGRanch was given a Hamburg Rooster. It has a huge comb that somehow connects to double barreled…not family friendly topic…..Thank You Chiquita to the afternoon laugh!

We have our own Chicken Soap Opera now! It is a classic Boy meets Girl, Boy loses Girl, but will Boy and Girl get together at the end? Will the eggs hatch? Join us next time…..Great picture Zooweemama!

We ended the evening with a computer glitch that evilly posted three times on PapaBrooder. Actually I think he really wants those chicks. We will have to see what can be arranged…..

Sorry for the fiddling on the digest post. The editing was wonky. I had to clean up the Microsoft code by saving it as text from Note Pad. Microsoft puts XML code into the documents, so a lot of editing programs cannot handle it. At UCD, our educational web app, SmartSite, has a special tool button that is called: Paste Word Text that cleans the code up for you. It is a very handy tool.
