The power went out at my house this morning, right after the 5th chick hatched. I quickly attached the battery to the incubator and then went to the garage to round up the 19 3 week old chicks that were under the heat lamp. I put them into a rubber maid brooder. My 13 year old daughter held the flash light for me while I moved them. After a while she asked if this was going to end soon. It takes a bit of time to move 19 chicks!
They are now upstairs in the tub with an ecoglow connected to the battery back up too. I am going to check on them at lunch. It is a good thing that I have the Doomsday Prepper set up at my house!
The weather forecast on weather.com says sunny by 1 PM!!! I'm sitting at my computer with one eye on the sky! I'm so excited about the possibility of sun!!!

I grew up living in the country 10 miles from town. We always had to fix things and keep them going since it took too much time to get to town. I was also in 4-H.
My former brother in law called all of us Ottman Scouts--we always had our pocket knife and chap stick with us!
Stats: #5 most active thread
Zooweemama was #7 for the most posts
We have more the 10,000 posts on this thread! We Started the day off with pictures From Amy Beth(Zooweemama). We spent some time critiquing Gary her Marans Rooster.
Chiquita knows quite a bit about the breed and was asked to show us some pictures.
We started the push for 10,000 posts!
The Marans Discussion then led into weight and worming. Options are to worm as often as every 6 weeks or to have a float test on the manure. A Vet or Lab(UCD) can float test, but with a microscope it could be done at home. It could be educational too. Foamy poo is an indication of worms.
broodyhenmommy joined us! and is looking to rehome a BA. I hope she is successful!
Happy chooks posted pictures of her beautiful Welsummer rooster! and Chiquita posted pictures of her Marans! It was a very nice morning with all of that eye candy! There were even pictures of Turkeys!
News from Chiquita: She has been breeding chickens for 11 months, Hens are bare of color(Copper on French Black Copper Marans) and the Universe wants her to have Marans. Iggy and the Show Girls(yes, chickens not a band) need work but are at least auto sexing. Silkies are good. Pork is what's for Dinner this week with Pazole and Roast that takes a long time to prepare! Capayvalleychick was trying to remember which Marans breeder Chiquita was at the Heirloom Expo last Fall. Chiquita was the loud blond with the Asian guy that went out for food(I did not make this up!). We learned a bit about Turkeys too! They watch TV!
In the same post we also got an update on Tilapia! Crazy Fish Guy(is he the Roadie for the Show Girl Band?) explained that there is a fairly complex ban on some of them but not on others. I ruined dinner again by posting about Tilapia eating chicken poo.
Chiquita posted her Pazole recipe. I am going to cook some soon!
Feathersprings got her silkies today! One pullet is injured so we are all hoping for her to recover!
We learned a bunch about shipping hatching eggs today. Check post 10012! Cooper12 is having project eggs hatched by Deb. Amy Beth has a Granite counter top similar to Debs. Oh could you tell by the post number that we topped 10,000 posts?
Some in Oregon are using pellets from pellet stoves in their coops and runs.
The Stockton show is coming up. Families are going if they want to or not! I am sure Walt will be stocked! If you have that may chickens in one place and they all started to fly at the same time, could they lift the roof off of the building?
We ended the evening with egg discussions: Flash makes eggs look lighter in pictures, 11 months for the first egg!, 31 weeks and no Empedessora eggs and eggs on all of the counters....I even dreamed of eggs...oh that wasn't a dream, I was awakened by a chirping chick that hatched form an egg at 2:30 in the morning How rude!
Yes, we are the place to be for crazy chicken people! I was looking at smileys the other day, and one was a box of chocolates. I of course thought they were Penedesenca eggs.
