California - Northern

It is cold today, so I really do not want to do the yard and coop work that is on my list for today. I will probably wait until 3 pm or so. I did get another colorful egg from my Dorkng AM today and yesterday I got a nice egg from my Blue Marans. Now I need the Partridge Penne pullet and my other EE to start laying. The green egg is very large. Since Dorking AMs lay big eggs, I hope my Dorking Marans, Dorking Reds and the Dorking Australorp all lay big eggs too. I expect to have eggs from them in a month.(note to self, get a nest box into their hutch).
Omg, love those eggs. Beautiful!

Pretty eggs.

I hear ya on delaying the outside work, need to clean the chimney cap and waiting for the frost to melt on the roof, and the hose to thaw out.

Question for you hatchers out there.

I've been running the humidity at 30/35% but the air sacks look bigger than the images of 14 day eggs. Should I bump up the humidity? They still have a week to go and air cells look to be about 3/8". My scale is used for produce and is in two ounce increments so not much help when weighing eggs.

Such pretty eggs!

Do the speckles signify anything particular about the chicken or what they're eating? My Delaware lays eggs on-and-off with speckles...just like the one on the right....

Cheryl,
The are in the ground. We have a line of citrus all jammed next to each other
Yuzu, manderin, orange , lemon and some Sour bitter green citrus. It had not been so bad but this week it has been raining at night then freezing. We have not been covering every night, but nothing looks dead yet....

As for speckled eggs, it is a trait of certain breeds like blue eggs. Wellies are famous for it.

We are working on the indoor coop today. An ideas what they need for a ladder roost? I've never built one. We were gong to use a pallet but i do not think it will work.

Yes! Follow the chart. 40% usually works for me.

I hope you have a great hatch!

Beautiful eggs!!! I got another egg from my Lav Am yesterday and one from my Golden Sex Link. Today I found a small brown egg that I think came from one of my blue Langshan pullets! Whoo hoo!!! Bring on the eggs!!!

Maranda hatched out of a speckled egg but she does not always lay one.

Since we have had a lot of cold mornings, the citrus has hardened to it and should be fine. The tree will not die for temps like these.

Use 1x1 or 2x2 boards and cut them to the correct lengths. Screw them together. The chickens will not care what they look like!

I made my coop ladders with ply wood, 1' wide and the length to make a nice angle for them to go up. I then put half inch strips on space 6 inches apart to give them grip. The are attache with hinges to the coop.
