Quote: My two Marans OEs are getting closer all the time! and still no crowing from those two, so still pullets.

They are starting to get redder Wattles and combs.

They do talk to me a bit but do not like me to pick them up. I love the beards, and red necks along with the one with feathers on the legs!

Question? My Marans roo is getting VERY feisty with me. He attacked me yesterday AND today. Are you kidding me? I am 5 7. I'm not a little thing at all. He is about 31 weeks old I want to say?

I have zero tolerance for this junk. Cull, give him time - suggestions? My other 2 roos do not do this. Not even my big fatty Buff Orp who is a mating maniac with the ladies.

I put mine into "time out" when he did this. You can get a cage or pet carrier and put him into it inside the run for the day. The one I did that with never attacked me again.

There is also an age factor. He should be past that teen age phase soon though so I would not give him too much time if the time out does not work.

Also, make sure you are not wearing red or red shoes.

I think they are all different. Our dutch gets fiesty in the spring and then mellows out. The barred rock only goes after noise and our cordless drill for some reason he HATES the drill. I had a D'anver that went after me but not the lady he lives with now. Hope someone can be of more help.

Uh oh. I am wearing a fuscia tee shirt. Is that red enough?

And I have to say he turned around and redeemed himself. I had tater tots left from lunch (healthy I know) so I went outside to observe and toss them their little treat. I was tossing pieces to him and the hens would come over and he would tap his beak near the food and step back and let the ladies eat. I will keep my eye on him but I like that side of him for my ladies.

ALSO Broody alert! My Black Orp Betty?? Has been in her fave lay box ALL day. She will not leave. Even if you pet her, reach under her...nothing. She growls and yells but won't leave. I found 6 eggs in the lay box next to her (silly girl) and grabbed the 2 EE eggs for Jeff to hatch and shoved 4 of the Buff eggs under. There were a load of ping pong balls in that nest that she was sitting on with her egg as well...not sure if there were anymore that I couldn't feel.

*fingers crossed* for Broody Betty!

Got 2 dozen eggs for Jeff to toss in his bator. Looks like 10 EE eggs, maybe 4 or 5 banty eggs and the rest all Buff Orp eggs. Let's see what I get! Last hatch I gave him 12 eggs and 1 hatched. I saw a lot more mating going on with these eggs so hopefully more than 2 eggs. :P

for Broody Betty! I love my Broody girls! The ping pong trick worked!

I have a theory about eggs and setting hens. My theory is that when a chicken lays an egg - if it disappears then that is not a safe place, so they go elsewhere. That's why I put a fake egg in my nests. Now - if they lay an egg and nothing bothers it - and they lay another one and nothing bothers it either - then it is a safe place.. and the ones that haven't had the broodieness bred out of them - will go broody..... Just my theory..

My marans get aggressive when I wear capris or roll up my pants. Cranberries bit me once in capris too. Ask me no questions I'll tell you no lies.
