I really like these two OE hens. Nothing phases them. I recently put them in with their dad (CL rooster) and they acted as if they had always lived there and continued laying. They did not miss a beat. Awesome birds..... The one with the crest is extremely friendly. She is almost a pest and kept getting in the way of all the other pictures.

I clicker trained my Dorking to play the xylophone... chickens are very color/texture motivated animals!!

I would love to see some video of that!

Wow, those are beautiful birds, I love the lacing. The laced polish must be really fun watching run around the yard - so colorful yet with their poofy tops...

Well Owl does go "off" with the rest of my roosters at 6:30, he is the lowest pitch one ... but I swear the fluffy bottom girls (silkies) right outside my window make more noise than he and all the boys do! I can sleep through crowing - but I cannot seem to sleep through a hen complaining because she wants OUT!

2 of my cockerels decided to have a crowing war on this their last day in town! YIKES! I sure hope my neighbors don't complain! I keep running out there and tossing them snacks to distract them. Do you think that they have me trained???!!!

I've often though about this too since I have a broody hen and can't have roosters, lol she wants babies. Of course there is a risk of bringing home a disease also.

I must admit, most of my favorite chickens are roosters, they have such personalities.
Your 2 problems are going to be
1. catching stuff
2. Will she stop laying if she gets moved? Its common for them to stop laying if there is a big change in routine, moving is pretty big. Its much more likely to work if you borrow her rooster for a week or so, they don't get out of the mood.

I have not seen people charge for roo services so on that I've got nothing.

Stud service is to practiced among chicks for a couple key reasons
#1 spread of disease
#2, Hen will likely stop laying for up to 3 weeks when moved

You could give AI a shot. Here is a video on collecting semon for a rooster. I have never tried it, but I think it would be a better option, Here is a video on how do do it.

In this case, to avoid exposing the bird to potential diseases. The OP doesn't have a roo.

It's also used in difficult to breed chickens, such as cochin, etc that have lots of "fluff". It's also used in commercial turkeys. They are no longer able to breed naturally due to the weight of the toms. That is one of the criteria of heritage turkeys, the ability to breed naturally.

I say no way.... Sale or give the person hatching eggs or chicks. Don't risk your flock... Just say'in! Not worth it.

-I don't think I'll be taking my sweet Buffy over to her house. I will either break her broodiness completely or let her sit a week or so and then give her some feed store chicks. I absolutely LOVE the Welsummer eggs from the Wellie chick Buffy raised, so I'm thinking of getting her a trio of Welsummer chicks. (More pretty rust eggs)
-Another idea is to give her my silkie's eggs to hatch. Ironically my silkie has never shown any interest in being broody and she doesn't submit easily to our silkie rooster yet. And, I may try AI with the 2 silkies to ensure fertility.

Sorry I'm just able to log in again.....teaching keeps me pretty busy -and after school I have to change hats to Mom, Wife, Domestic Engineer, Chef and not to mention Chickenkeeper!

I did want to share that I have officially sold my first carton of eggs! My son's off-site Spanish teacher told me a while back she'd be interested in buying from us. She spent one class teaching the kids Spanish words and songs about chickens on account of my son having chickens........It was very nice of her. So last week I took her 3 pretty eggs which she absolutely loved (and she said she hoarded all to herself-hehe). It's nice to have a customer that appreciates your eggs as much as she does.
