Blue Egg Layer update:

Today is day 23--Just verified with my Records. They knocked over the Hygometer I was using, so I could not see the humidity level but the water tanks looked low in the Genesis. I added water using plastic tubing through the vent hole an hour an a half ago.

Just now  saw the sixth egg with a pip knock a piece of shell out! Still hatching on day 23...After this one hatches I will check the last three eggs.

:ep

Wow! You are one lucky Hatcher!

Amy, I had a new chick with horrible pasty butt, once. The person who had incubated the eggs for me did some research and told me that some chicks look like they have manure stuck to them, but it's actually some undeveloped internal parts. She told me not to clean it, to leave it alone until the chick matured and then it would come off. I don't remember what it was called or the details. I did just let it dry up & it fell off on it's own. That chick was a very late hatcher and had trouble getting out of the shell. It ended up being a rumpless cockerel.
I thought that I would mention it because you can kill these chicks if you try to pull off what looks like manure but is actually part of their body.
I pulled off poop. I knew it was poop because I watched it build up. And I knew the cord was the cord and I actually had left it alone. I didn't pull it off- it came off in the water when I was washing the poop off her butt.
I got my Barnevelder eggs from Trisha .... Some are blue laced. She has extremely healthy breeding stock. These little chicks came out running

love them!
SO cute!! I have a thing for big hens, hehe.
Our Grange feed store has something similar but they are in the pet bird section. One of their employees raises cockateils and uses the split rings to id them. They come in different colors and you can get them off like the number leg bands for xhowing.
Yay thank you!
With Pasty butt, just make sure they can poop. Do not pull anything off. Sometimes it takes a long time to get the pasty stuff to dissolve off.

Hey Kim! Tomorrow is day 5! Time for a quick peek at those hatching eggs....
She has been pasty butt free since her cord fell off after her little 'bath' to clean her bum. Yay! And her little cord hold is sealed up and she (who carries herself like a he) seems to be doing just fine now.

I buy these on ebay. They are the best bands I have found. They come in different sizes.
You still need to remove them when they get tight, but they go on and off very easy...
Thank you so much!

This is all over the place crazy hatch. How stressful and exciting!

Thanks for your sympathies about the chick.

Me and my family need your prayers desperately.
My dad is a High school P.E. teacher. He tried to get between two boys that were going to fight. One was a 6 foot tall bully, and my dad is only 5 feet. He told the kid to knock it off, and got between them. The big kid grabbed my dad's arm, and tried to shove him out of the way. My dad's hand hit the kids tooth accidentally and made it loose. Then the bully proceeded to pick up my dad, spin him up-side down, and ram him against the chain link fence. My dad grabbed the fence, and held on. He called for help and a few other students got between my dad and kid, and held him back.
He came home with blood all over his face, his hand swollen. The bully however only has a loose tooth.

The district is trying to fire my dad, because it is easier to "get rid" of the teacher, then punish the student.

We welcome your prayers.
Thanks

We had the babies outside for a while today, it was so much fun! Watching them chase each other over little worms was 100x better than any TV show I've ever seen. Buffle got tired and took a nap in Mark's hands.

It's so much fun to see the adorable newly hatched babies! Ours from McMurry are supposed to have hatched today and get here by Tuesday or Wednesday

I'm so sorry to hear that. My mom is a high school teacher and there are some really messed up things that go on with the administration. It's appalling. We'll be thinking of your family and sending best wishes.

It really is.
Thank you very much.
