Hey all, I'm new to keeping chickens and my husband and I just picked up our first 3 girls from Miss Molly this evening. We picked up 3 cream legbar chicks, 2 typical coloration and one white girl. One of the girls looks like she is going to have the most amazing crest. Yeah, this is the start of an addiction...

Hello and Welcome

to the only addiction that allows you to have your chickens... and eat the eggs too!

Creme Legbar eggs are beautiful, and so are the birds, excellent starter choice!

Welcome and congratulations on your new chicks. I said I would never have chickens and now there are so many breeds I wish I had. The breeds raised by the people on this thread are amazing!

Blue Egg Layer update:

Today is day 23--Just verified with my Records. They knocked over the Hygometer I was using, so I could not see the humidity level but the water tanks looked low in the Genesis. I added water using plastic tubing through the vent hole an hour an a half ago.

Just now  saw the sixth egg with a pip knock a piece of shell out! Still hatching on day 23...After this one hatches I will check the last three eggs.

:ep

Is there a separate thread with pictures you can direct us to? I am curious what these guys look like.

Mama chicken gave up on the last 4 eggs in the nest, guess the chicks didn't want to stay there anymore. Oh well, got 3 super cute chicks!

Mine are 4 blue and 3 splash. The 7th is holding on--will see how it is doing in the morning. It is completely out of the shell and it looks like the goop came off ok.

I will get pictures in the morning. I may start a little thread about this hatch. This is the weirdest one yet and to wind up with 7 our of 9 when I bought a 6+......I am happy with the results and happy that I do not have any hatching soon. This is day 23 almost day 24 and I still have one drying out in the hatcher.....

Post pictures when you can!

We are a bunch of chicken addicts here so you will fit in nicely!

I hope so! I want to keep two but I don't know for sure which. I depends on how well the others hatch. Heritage RIRs, Bresse(a lot of us seem to have them though) Blue Egg layers, Basque and Asturian Paints are possible.

I pullet the last three eggs out and found one still alive in the first one. The membrane started bleeding so I poked a little hole in the other two and got the eggs back into the hatcher. Crazy hatch for sure!
Wow, that is one seriously amazing hatch rate for shipped eggs

. Those Arkansas Blues sound like very hearty birds. I sure hope you decide to keep them so I can get some eggs/chicks..

If you decide not to breed them, keep me in mind for a roo and a few pullets?

I just double checked my list and you are on it!

You must have posted a link to it a while back. As soon as I went to it I realized I had read part of it. Sheesh, that thread got long, fast!

Someone else, early in the thread, mentioned that their blue eggs took a few extra days to hatch, too.

Pictures, pictures!
