Quote: To get Ameracaunas, you should get them from a Breeder. Sometimes the chicks from a breeder will not meet the standard for Ameracaunas so those will be called EEs. This is the only breed where this is true. A non standard SG Dorking is still an SG Dorking. It would be a cull.
So it was a long night!! Dusty hatched at 8:50pm & Max at 9:10pm.... They both looked good so I left them alone. I could still hear one peeping inside one of the blue shells when I went to bed; I thought she would surely be here this morning, but I couldn't hear anything this am so I pipped her shell & she must have quit during the night the other 2 hadn't even developed... I think the egg was so tight she couldn't get out. I should have helped her last night, but I didn't want to interfere I'm happy I got 2!!!!
Thanks for the cheering section, guys!!!

When I checked under my broody last night, I had 2 new fluffy butts! Will try to get some pics today.
She was not allowing anyone else in her nesting box, so I was lazy and did not mark her eggs. on day 19, she had 2 new eggs under her, but I could not tell for sure which were the new ones! So right now she has 2 chicks and 3 eggs under her, but only one of those eggs might still hatch. I am gonna give them until tonight, then pull them.
My kids were so excited to see the new chicks last night! So much fun.

Long time reader but first time posting. I have learned so much on this website so I want to say hi and thank you for all the information on chicken keeping.
I am in San Jose, CA. This is my first time keeping chickens. I have two sebright hens (one golden one silver). I got my first egg today so I am very excited. I have a quick question though. I saw my chickens eating my milkweed but they are fine...do I have to worry about their eggs? can I eat the eggs? I thought Monarch caterpillars eat milkweed so that birds do not the butterfly because milkweed is poisonous?
Question I'm on day 21 with 5 eggs my grandma gave me.... not a pip yet. I never candled them. How often do eggs go over 21 days to hatch? I'm hoping they hatch!! I just hope for at least 2
