does anyone in Norcal breed silver duckwing Ameraucana?
Jean (Pips&Peeps) is going to send me some eggs from her Silver Ameraucanas. I need to remind her

Linda (Sweet Water Poultry) used to have them. She sold her flock but can give you the contact info on who has them now. She said they are on the small side. That has been a problem with the silvers and is why Jean bred hers to her black Ameraucanas and still considers them in the project stage. The chicks will be the 3rd generation and should be some beauties!

Can someone tell me how to get your hatch rate? Is it percentage of eggs that hatched from initial total or total at lockdown?

Most do not count the clears for hatch rate. They do for the hatch-a-long contest though--It is easier to make sure no one fudges the numbers.

It is good to keep track of the clears though for a breeder. There may be things that need to be changed for the flock.

I figure from the amount of eggs I start with and how many chicks end up hatching. If I bought 12 eggs and 6 hatched, then I got a 50% hatch rate ;)

Yup. For Hatch-a-longs, that's how we do it. I set 24 eggs this time, and as I'm not one for being upset at very low hatch rates, I just hope the calculations are easy to manage. I am math-challenged. I have to ask somebody every time how to figure percentage, even with a calculator. The steps are complicated for me - after which number do you utilize the % key?

I found a better answer for you:

begin with # of eggs set subtract loss due to not fertile, died 1st week, died 2nd week, full term failed to pip, pipped failed to hatch, culled too weak, culled deformed, other, add total lost, tally total hatched, take total hatched divide by #of eggs set minus not-fertile In your example you would take 33 divided by (42minus 7 = 35) = % of fertile hatched 94.2 hatch rate would be 33 divided by 42 = 78.5 you can figure hatch rate or fertile hatch rate most figure fertile hatch rate.

Figuring the fertile hatch rate is better for people that do not breed them. If they are not ours, we can't correct the clears. Our incubator and settings are all we can control.

I have a beautiful little silver Ameraucana with an emphasis on little. She is my smallest LF hen. She is 2 yrs old and is entertaining but not a good layer. She is one of the bottom hens in the pecking order but doesn't often get picked on because she is so fast at escaping.

Jean had one of her silver hens at the Stockton show last year (not this past January) and she was big and had beautiful rich color with a deep salmon colored breast. She acted calm which I have heard the silvers are flighty. It was love at first sight!
