Hi and welcome to the thread!Didn't have the right time for the auction and got there when it was ending. But... there was a rooster left behind and the owner didn't want to take it home so we now have our first rooster. Named him "Handsome."

All quite perfect!![]()
Quote: That would not happen until the very end-last couple of days. The thermostat compensates for it usually. The thing to remember is that at the end you do not have to keep the temperature as high. I hatch at the low end of safe incubation--98.5.
They are your eggs! Candle them. All of the prep and study and expectation of eggs and now the wait....I swore I would be good and wait until at least day 7 to candle but those Dorking eggs are so white and pretty and I know they have a story to tell me TONIGHT. Will you absolve me if I just shine a flashlight into them without picking them up?
All three plus another and a BO hen were gifts to my uncle from my cousin Christmas of 11. Straight run of misc feed store chicks turned out to be 4 cockerels and 1 pullet. I think after looking at pics on line that the bachelor boys are New Hampshire...they are a brighter red than many of the RIR boys seem to be. The roo on the feather site breed page is a ringer for them color wise. Thanks Deb!I would say the first is a Golden Comet roo, the second two HQ RIR or possibly HQ New Hampshire Red (sic). Very beautiful roos.

Quote: It looks like the Delaware Rooster X New Hampshire makes the Indian River chicks.
The Red Rooster(New Hampshire, RIR or Production Red) X Delaware Hens will make a sex link. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information
You could make either one. The Indian Runner is a meat bird Dual Purpose. The Sex link cross should make a great layer but I am not clear on how good the Cockerels would be as meat birds.
This is a fun project and I am looking forward to seeing what you get.
