Are the Chocolate Orps good layers?
Well... to be Honest, she had only been laying a few month before she went Broody.
All of my other Orpintons lay pretty good. I Imagine she will do the same...

I do have an extra breeding pair of slates, if you were interested just jumping in.
Those are beyond cute!
My little lady, Benina, modeling her new spring dress!! She is a perfect model![]()
-My Coturnix Quail are on lockdown tonight!!! 33 eggs, but I've had some temp issues so I'm hoping for at least 10.![]()
I also have an RIR who seemed to be sitting a lot- 5 months old- I took her out & she was walking like she was drunk. She's normally a sketchy runner & she could barely keep her head off the ground. I deduced that her right wing is broken. I think that she must have gotten caught up the last time she was out free ranging. Poor thing. I splinted her wing to her side with vet wrap & giving her some vitamins, electrolytes, higher protein & just making sure she can get to the food/water. What else can I do?
Boy hope it was not this guyGood morning everyone.
I loaded the EOs last night. This will be my first try incubating shipped eggs in an incubator. I had broodies the last timeI ordered eggs. I will check in a few days to see if there is any change in the air cells or if I can find them at all on the porous eggs. The shells don't seem thin, just really spotted and more spots on the large end of course.
Looks like we have another pair of hawks trying to nest somewhere close. The sharp-shin pair has been here for years but while working outside lately there is another pair calling and flying around. I haven't ID'd them yet but my big girls are not happy with the reduced free time!
Good luck with getting the wing mended SilkieRose. They are amazingly tough creatures and we have such a knowdelgable group to draw advice from I'm sure she'll be fixed up soon.
Let me know if you want to get rid of a Wellsummer pullet!
We can only have a total of six chickens inside city limits. I brought home 4 last week....leaving room for 2 more. LOL I am thinking I will add a Wellsummer and then either an Australorp (anything but black!), Cochin or Barred Rock......oh, there are just too many choices. My hubby already thinks I am nuts....
