I agree! My DH works for UC Santa Cruz and he told me that the students chose that for their mascot. It's a good thing that they don't have a football team.

I am a grad. Wo had no official mascot and our only ncaa sport at the time was tennis. Which was very successful in D3 or maybe D2??? Anyway they went to the NCAA tournament several times under Bob Hansen who was the coach for decades. The unoffcial mascot was the Banana Slug. In the mid 80s students voted between that and the Sea Lion for the official mascot and the rest is history. UCSC was founded in 68 and was intended, among other things, to be a school based on cooperation rather competiton...how I ended up there is a mystery :)

Last night I was going to bed and noticed something in the middle of one of the dog's backs, in her hair. It looked like a chick poo. On closer inspection, it was a slug crawling through her hair.

I took her outside and flicked it off. If there had been chickens around, there may have been a treat for them, LOL

I had an ex-BF (note the ex) that would freak out if my dog touched his hand (ewww, dog slime), but when we went camping he would pick up and kiss a banana slug. He used to be a kid's camp counselor and that was his party trick to impress the kids with the ewww factor. Notice I said Ex........................."you'll kiss a slug, but my beloved dog can't touch you with her nose?".

This was the eight bin stage, plus about 400 eggs still in the incubators.

Love the shot AmyBeth. Love when they are at the losing their down stage. That's where all my babies are at the moment. They've already started to run with their little wings extended for loft. At least now they're the size of a chicken wing, instead of the one inch wings they had before.

I have a question for silkie people, well maybe silkie owners is more correct.

One of my 4-Hers got a couple of silkie chicks. This weekend she noticed that 1 of them is missing the fifth toe on one foot. Is it a defect or a DQ? I'm guessing a DQ but not sure since the other foot has all five toes.

It is a DQ. The judge may or may not notice and it certainly wouldn't matter for showmanship. More or less than five is a DQ.

So now I have questions.....
I thought this chicken was a Gold Laced Wyandotte, but it looks a lot like Chickee's Black Laced Red. What's the difference?

Golden laced Wyandottes do not carry the blue gene. Their base color is gold, where as the black laced reds base color "should" be mahogany. I am pretty sure yours is a rooster

A very pretty one too

Oh my!!! I'm not going to read the 2,828 posts I've missed!! lol How is everybody?? My life has been a bit busy these days :) I hope everybody is well!!
I hatched my first EE's in February & I must re-home 2 of the boys (they haven't started crowing yet) They are so gorgeous, but I just can't make the neighbors mad. My silkies have just started to make some noise in the morning & my extra male quail are being quite noisy (calling for the ladies).
I'm hoping that somebody here needs a roo that is super spoiled & cuddly :)
Here they are!!! Bebe is my 1st hatch.... I really don't want to part with him or the blonde, Chanel, but I must :(

They aren't the best pics, but you get the idea :)
I was going to try to get $10/ each for them, but I'm willing to negotiate. I just don't want to take them to the feed store :(

Sorry I'm only here asking questions, we're just busy working on the coop!

I still have 5 RIR girls to sell, they're almost 3 weeks old now. How much should I sell them for? (On Craigslist)
