Golden laced Wyandottes do not carry the blue gene. Their base color is gold, where as the black laced reds base color "should" be mahogany. I am pretty sure yours is a rooster
All three of the Wyandottes I got from the feed store this year have combs like that!! I have the worst luck with sexed hatchery chicks.
The Gold laced is real pretty, but the coloring on the two SL's is awful! On a happy note -- my Safeway eggs should be hatching today or tomorrow. My 2 little BLRW's should be getting more friends. I set them at 10PM on Wednesday April 24th, so is today, or tomorrow day 21? I have lots of wiggling eggs, but no pips yet. They are extra large eggs, do those take longer to hatch than the smaller ones?
Quote: Tolbunt is a color. They are supposed to be reddish brown with a tip of black and white at the end of each feather. I really need to take pictures of my adults.
This is a photo from Greenfire Farms, I believe they were the originator of all the tolbunt polish you see here.
I don't know if you guys were interested at all. But I have some snaps of my 'sizzles'. For those just tuning in (lol) I set 3 eggs from my bantam Blue Laced Red Wyandotte pair. What hatched was not BLRW...the only explanation is my blue Sizzle got out of his pen and nailed my hen. It almost looks like I got a black, a splash and a blue. What do you think? Of course there is leakage since this is a cross. I'm really curious what these guys will look like.
Quote: If you set on a Wednesday, they are due on a Wednesday. Assuming we are talking about standard/bantam chicken eggs.
I could never wrap my head around the before noon and after noon nonsense. That would make eggs set at 12:01 pm incubate a whole day longer than eggs set at 11:59 am (two minutes earlier). It takes eggs 21 24-hour periods. That's why I say you incubate by the clock, not the calendar.
Last night I was going to bed and noticed something in the middle of one of the dog's backs, in her hair. It looked like a chick poo. On closer inspection, it was a slug crawling through her hair.
I took her outside and flicked it off. If there had been chickens around, there may have been a treat for them, LOL
I had an ex-BF (note the ex) that would freak out if my dog touched his hand (ewww, dog slime), but when we went camping he would pick up and kiss a banana slug. He used to be a kid's camp counselor and that was his party trick to impress the kids with the ewww factor. Notice I said Ex........................."you'll kiss a slug, but my beloved dog can't touch you with her nose?".
This was the eight bin stage, plus about 400 eggs still in the incubators.
Wow! I googled for pics to see what these look like! They are stunning!!! I would love to see baby pics when they fluff up a bit.
It will have been worth the wait right? Instant gratification isn't all what it is cracked up to be!
You can probably sell the extra male quail in CL..... HI! I never did see what the eggs looked like from the girls! Lol....
I just cannot wait to set up a visit to your place. Anyone want some baby roo's? Then I can go get some more girls
