Wow I have never seen that. I know they are working on a gold quail egg. But the Emi thing is new keep it.
Oh Shantih (and Mario), I have a question for you. With the coturnix, I know they have a blue shell, with an overlay of color which causes the spots. Once in awhile I get a solid blue egg with no spot overlay. It's always cool and I like them. However, last night I got something different. I'm guessing the spot overlay is solid. I'm debating between incubating and just letting it dry out to add to my odd egg collection. But I got a SOLID black egg. :ep My question, you ever get one like this? (bobwhite on the left)

Picture time! I wish I had a nice camera, alas I am stuck with my cell phone for now.

Most of the bunch enjoying some outside sun time. Herding these guys back into the coop was interesting...

Grocery store hen - she still needs a name... any suggestions?

The blue orpington roo, looking for a good home.

Lucy - my prettiest girl

Jojo - but I can't remember if this is 1 or 2, at least I can tell them apart now! One has a black toenail. I'm still hoping that he is a girl...
maybe name it after the store or the egg brand . pretty birds

When does the average rooster start crowing? My 13 week old Cornish X roo has been crowing for about a week now. It sounds more like a drunk yodeler than a rooster though (I'll try to take a video of it later). For some reason it is quieter, and the sound doesn't carry like other roosters that I have heard - thank goodness. Around what age is a rooster able to fertilize eggs?

My black penedesenca and layer flock run is about done. Just need to nail the no climb fence to the last post and add my gate that I have.
I forgot the heavy duty tent stakes while at the Home Depot yesterday so need those for a few spots and to hang the rest of my netting. I need to move my small pallet coop in there until I get my other bigger one situated. Then I can put both my Easter eggers from Candy and older Black Penedesenca in there.

Ron I put the young roo with the U of A blues. he is slightly bigger and already showing them he is the boss. There are 3 white empordanesa that are younger in there too and he is way bigger but is not messing with them.

Candy I think I have a few roosters in there from you. None are getting any roostery color like the wheatens can get so maybe they are taking on buff looks? However a few are getting red combs and pointy feathers.. I know 3 are hens at least for sure. I think 1 is a wheaten or blue wheaten ameraucana. will try and get better pics once They go in the larger run.

ohh boy. Rocky my crele rooster crowed at 5 weeks . I most of the alfa roosters start earlier in my experience. if you have more in the same run the others may not or wait longer. I had a black ameraucana I though was a hen for months until I got rid of its brother and the icelandic was killed. Then it crowed and got all the feathers shortly after

I swear I'm going to hang a calander in the coops. Yesterday I said I was expecting a bantam hatch on Tuesday. Look what was in the coop when I got home today. There are 5 more under her I hope to see soon. The chick is a dutch/OEGB mix.
I use google calendar to set dates and alarms... its the only thing I have found to keep me from forgetting!
I was surprised by early hatchers last night too. I thought I could wait till this morning to set the eggs up for hatching. I wrote it on the calendar for the eggs to start hatching Tuesday or Wednesday. But, last night at 11pm I heard peeping! Lots of eggs were pipped and still rocking in turner..oops! Humidity was only 30% too. I pulled the eggs out of the turner and bumped the humidity up as fast as i could. The first chick just hatched as I am typing this post, LOL. Trisha

A second chick has now hatched. I have about 63+ more to go. My bator is packed, LOL.I was going to stick some of these eggs under Broody hens to hatch , but because they started early, I didn't have time to shuffle grumpy broody hens around in the dark last night.

Hatch it! That is a really neat egg:) Trisha

Alright Chickee, you have me intrigued. I have a couple of Wheaton EE (Ameraucana?) that have slightly different color variations. What color would you call these gals? And yes, those are really their names. Princess #1 Princess #2
My EE's are bigger, 6 weeks, and do not have the beard yours does. I sure hope it comes soon. I love this color though. I have one white with some black and two brown and black.
These girls are actually 9 weeks old. I could tell when they hatched which ones were going to have muffs because they had really cute puffy cheeks.
