Thank you for the recommendation! I'm going to check it out! My DH and I have been on a no sugar diet since April. We have been following JJ Virgin's food intolerance diet. For 21 days, you cut out of your diet the 7 most common foods that people are intolerant of (corn, soy, peanuts, sugar, gluten, dairy, eggs) and then slowly add them back in one at a time to see how your body responds to them. Of course there are a few that she recommends you keep below 5% of your diet and sugar is one of them. We have been amazed at how good we feel and how some of the signs of aging like joint pain, poor sleeping, etc. have almost completely disappeared. We have made the change both for health reasons and to lose weight. My DH has lost over 30 lbs and I've lost 22 lbs so far. It sounds hard but it really has been the easiest life change we have ever made. It helps that we are feeling so much better. I had no idea that I was feeling bad until I cut out those foods. We are thinking about doing a 30 day paleo diet challenge that is very similar to the one we have been on except you are allowed eggs but not allowed legumes with a few exceptions. It shouldn't be hard since we have already made most of the changes.

I hadn't heard of the virgin diet but paleo is pretty close to the way of eating I advocate which is "if it didn't have a mother or roots don't eat it" I call it the pre WWII diet because after the war was when so much of what we ate as a nation became mass produced. I'll stop now but want to say....

to Pam and her H for making healthy changes!!!

Good morning! I'm looking forward to the apricot pineapple jam. I got pineapples to ferment the skin for Porto Rican pique sauce.

Made apricot syrup and raseberry and apricot cobbler last night.

Now to find a spicy apricot glaze with no sugar ( or low at least) for chicken and pork.

My house stays cool, so I'm not worried about canning. It has to get over 100 before I feel it. The Bowman's were all about airflow. Can regret that in the winter sometimes however!

Liz gratz on the bcms they are such cute little bruisers!

Happy solstice everyone!

Changes in diets need to be life style based and sustainable. Well over 90% of those working towards losing weight gain it all back within 3 years.

Little changes are much better.

Edited to Add: I am going to convert a Three egg cake into a Blackberry wine cake this weekend. I will eat one slice of it and not feel bad at all.

Congrats! I just went out to the coop and another chick hatched.....and I think another broodie :barnie .... I'm not going to let this one set. I'm selling beer/wine at our Farmers Market for the next 12 weeks and I wanted to sell eggs too! With 3 broodies and having them in the laying boxes I have to search all over for the other eggs!

I currently have 8 hens with babies and 3 sitting on eggs.. So much for turning my incubator off :)

We have been making little changes over the last 5 years including drinking mostly water, not drinking soda (used to have 1-2 Cokes per day), increasing fruits & vegies, and limiting sugar. I think that's why this wasn't a huge adjustment for us. Losing weight is a nice bonus but feeling healthy is the real benefit. I have suffered all my life with eczema and this diet change has almost completely gotten rid of it. I would rather not eat sugar, etc. than wake up at 3 AM with my hands & arms itching so badly that I can't go back to sleep. It is all about wise choices based on your own body! All things are permissable but not all things are profitable!

I looked into things to help with Gout. My Dad and two brothers have it. I changed some diet things and bought some herbal vitamins: Banaba Leave, Olive leaf extract, Celery Seed and Artichoke extract.

The eczema bumps on my head went away over night! I had been fighting it for a year. I think it was the Olive Leaf Extract.

Good job on the small changes over 5 years!
