Thanks everyone, I think I'll try pine shavings then!
&Thanks for the comments on the pictures, of course! I love when people like my pictures! Funny enough, that hen is in love with my dog. I have some more pictures of it, I'll have to post them later.

Thank you for the information. I could drive her down to UCD.

It is a good option if the poor thing is suffering.

I could probably come up with spares in - golden campine, RIR, BC marans, lakenvelder, Iowa blues, new Hampshire, silver pencil rocks, white legbar and in bantams barred rocks & Columbian cochin.

Maybe something else, I'd have to look around the pens.
Deb when I go get a Dorking from Kim do you think it would be possible to get a NH pullet from you on the same trip? I mean we could schedule it around when you might be going to Sac or Natomas or something. Just tossing ideas around..or would it be totally impractical from the isolation and "everyone needs a friend" standpoint because they would be from different flocks???

You are right about them not drinking when they are sick. If you have sick ones you want to hand feed them water so they get better enough to drink on their own. You can drop water on the beak of chicks or do the beak. Its a pita but does work
Hi all Happy Monday,
I haven't been on here for awhile and still need to catch up with what has been going on. But, I have a few questions if anyone can help me with I would be very grateful.
1st) I have another sick chicken. She is having trouble walking and cannot stand up. She hangs her wings down. I have started Corid in her water, but I am not sure she is even drinking it. Can someone tell me again about the necropsy from UCD. Where do I go to get this done. If she dies I would like to know how to protect my flock.
2nd) my silkie has gone broody and has been sitting on eggs. I dated some of them and it has been 30 days. Does it take that long for some eggs to hatch?
3rd) I did get one baby hatched from this clutch. Below are some pics

Hi Debs flock,
I have been looking for some BC Marans as well. I would love a pullet or two. I really want to concentrate my flock on breeding some olive eggers. I have 1 Ameracauna hen and a lavender Ameracauna roo, so some BC Marans would be perfect. Just throwing that out there too.
If course I would like to get my chicken checked out first.
