So when are people's hatch dates???

Mine is the 25th.

If the eggs were expensive enough to be worth it people have been getting some money back for detached air cells. YMMV however.

The weather has been so dry here I am having humidity problems. Eggs are loosing too much weight. I put some paper towels up for more water diffusement I'm hoping this helps.
I spent 20 + 15 shipping so I am OK with the outcome I would have been willing to pay 30 for a SLW pullet and would have had to drive to wherever she was and gas/road food would have put me closer to 50. Living where I do, I am at least 2 hours from just about anywhere.

I didn't mean the breeder I ment the USPS. But I'd not bother either :)

Petrock ! I have been reading some about quail and come to the conclusion that your bobs probably had enteritis. It prevents similar to cocci but is treated differently and is common enough in bobwhites you can get medicated feed designed to prevent it. Might look it up in case it pops up again.

Thanks for thinking of my quail! I'll have to look that up. What did they say to treat it with? I ended using Sulmet because the Amprolium wasn't working. I lost 7 out of 19 and only have 3 females left. I'm thinking about keeping the 3 females and 2 males.

Put me in the incubating again club too. I put welsummer eggs in the bator a couple of days ago.

I'm part of the club, too! I bought a GQF 1550 hatcher from Shannon. I am running a test hatch with 12 Bresse and farm mix eggs. It is wonderful at holding steady temp and humidity but doesn't have turners like the incubators have. That means manual turning for me. I have the eggs in a plastic egg try and I am propping it up on one end, then putting it flat, then propping it up on the other end. Do you think that will work or is there a better way to turn them? It is day 6 and I'm trying to wait until day 10 to candle.

Wow, a Christmas tree lot is a lot of work! My friends son has one and I've seen how hard he works and what long hours he puts in. Of course, I'm in retail so I'm familiar with long hours for this time of the year.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see the hatching chicks this time of year. Getting me excited to see the eggs start hatching this weekend! If I can keep the humidity up....feels like my first hatch in the Little Giant!!!!

Yes, running a Christmas Tree lot is so much harder than people think but it is also more fun than you can imagine. "Almost" everyone is in the holiday spirit which makes it festive.

The days are really nice. My cousin, also a female, is my partner and our moms and my kids and their friends work the lot. We have met so many great people and made lots of new friends, many who often come back at night to bring us hot food and drinks and hang out by the fire pit. Where else can you sit by a fire pit in December? LOL The evenings are tough especially when its raining because we can't light the fire pit and have to resort to huddling in a 10 x 10 unheated pop up tent. Yep, it gets chilly.

The lot opens at 9am and closes at 9pm. For safety reasons, my cousin and I are the only ones that use the chain saws so we are both pretty much planted at the lot during business hours which makes for long days.

Running an X-mas tree lot is kinda a weird sensation... you work work work and then one day. its over. The sad thing is, we are so exhausted in the end that it takes us forever to break down our lot. Our permit expires on Jan 5th so all light poles have to be down and the lot has to be bare by then. We usually do it on the 3rd. Talk about procrastination, but it takes us that long to mentally recover.

I totally understand that too!

Just so you know Ali and anyone else who questioned my sanity for serving up hatching eggs for breakfast

The original SLW egg auction was for 8 which really was all I wanted b/c I wanted to give her some eggs from my own flock to check if Ozzie is gettin the job done. She ended up telling me she was sending 12 so the fact that 4 air cells were detached made it easy for me to pick which 8 eggs I would give her. I think I will only want 1 pullet from these eggs so I have your name on any others that I get don't worry.

The eggs are a really light tan color, not warm brown like my other girls lay. They will make a nice contrast in the basket now we just need them to hatch

Lolol.... You know I was just joshin' ya! I wouldn't have had the will power to not stick them all under the chicken. I am just weak that way.

Anyway it seems we have a bunch of closet hatchers in the group. Surreptitiously setting their eggs and fessing up to the it once someone speaks out!

If I hadn't just moved and was not living out of boxes I would be right there with all of you! Darn it. Probably a good thing I have something else more pressing right now.

Juststruttin, I'm impressed! I understand about the long days, if I was doing it my own tree wouldn't get decorated until the afternoon of the 24th.
