California - Northern

so far today I have 10 little chicks hatched.
4 crele penedesenca ( 3 boys and a girl lol )
plus 6 Olive eggers

waiting on 10 more.
I am getting some huge eggs ( extra large to jumbo size) from my U of A's Ron and can not wait to set them. They are in with the White empordanesa now

I have to figure out a new indoor brooder idea though I cant seem to keep Lewey out of the brooder ugh.

I'm thinking of putting a coop/run on the back acre of our place. With all the critters we have I'm leaning towards putting a hot wire on it. Would the wire need tobe mounted above snow level?

That is good news!

My UofA Blues are in Winters but the egg farmer says they are not laying. I bet he has them inside a dark pen. He needs to get light on them.

I'm pulling for 10 more girls for you. Wishing I could sit inside watching chicks hatch. We have cold fog outside now and 2 cords of wood to stack before it rains.

We haven't had chicks inside since we got Rose. We can't keep her out of anything, I'm sure Lewey is just as difficult!

yeah he was just in the brooder. I may have to find a fish tank. My outdoor brooder is currently occupied otherwise I would put them out there lol

I am on my 3rd oven, jam and pickles are pretty tough on them, I save the racks to use on the tubs. Rose would just lift the wire off but the weight of the rack would make it tougher for her. I would have to leave the wire on also, she would reach through the racks to stir them up.

What breeds are you breeding at the farm Ron?
I finished up with Basque and now he has a pen set up for the UofA Blues. Next year I am hoping he will set up a second pen so that we can work on two at a time out there.

He wants:

Fogel RIRs
Blue and Black Australorps
Partridge Penedesenca
Pita Pinta
White Bresse
UofA Blues
Basque Hens

Later I hope to work on Colloncas out there. Jeremy is going to have amazing egg layers with a very colorful egg basket. His customers in SF are going to go crazy!
