Ali she is better thank you! The vitamins perked her up and the foot brace seems to be working. However the hobble sucked so she is in a cup. Not a happy camper. But she may make it after all!

Sorry about your sick bird Ron.... how are they doing today? Chiqita how is the leg and breathing issue with the baby?

Corid seems to have helped everyone a great deal. The one that was not cooping herself up at night is back to normal. She slept in the house a few nights and seems okay now.

They are all still pretty skinny. Anything I can feed them to help them regain some of the lost weight? Their keel bone is pretty prominent. It is a keel bone right? Anyway their breast bone sticks out!

I don't know if it is coincidence or if they don't really like the food that I bought from Costco. It was that 40 lb sack of Organic Layer feed. They aren't eating as much of it as the other. I do have a flock block in with them now though and they pick at that regularly.

I have two solid squatters! Yay. One of the mean girls and the big black orp. Still waiting though........

I have what appears to be the head chicken and she insists on trying to eat my fingers.....? I chase her away because it is annoying, and then she comes back and does it again. Is she trying to be dominant?

Give them a half dose--3/4 tsp of 20% powder for 5 days. The second dose helps them build resistance. They Cocci chews up their intestines so the intestines need to rebuild.

Give them Turkey or game grower--Something over 20% protein. Hold off on the layer and after the last dose of corid, give them vitamins like save a chick or rooster booster, something with B vitamins and electrolytes.

They will gain the weight back quickly.

Thanks Ron.... do I just start the half dose for 5 days right after the 5 days of full dose treatment or do I wait? Today is day 5 of the regular treatment. Dang I thought I was done with the bucket of medicated water!

I don't have the powder I have the liquid but I can figure out the half dose for that.

Chiqita I am glad she is doing better. Maybe the heavy breathing was that was just so weak and the vitamins helped that! Yay!

I became a convert to the powder when I figured out I can fill the reg chick waterers up to just under the bump in the jug ( 4 cups) and put in a 1/8 tsp. No more need to measure the water just fill her up and go.

Yes, give them the half dose right after the first full dose.

I am happy they are doing so much better!

My Barred Rock is still the same.

Broody update. re-candled the 4 questionable SPW eggs today and there is definitely an embryo in one of them. Saw movement and veining

Two others maybe and I am pretty sure there is one totally clear. When should I look at them again? I have those 3 marked with ?? I should also tell you that I don't have the ability to smell so I can't give the sniff test.

Did you ever give her treats by hand? That will make them think you always have a treat in your fingers.

Does anybody know if you can give chickens stabilized rice bran for horses? That is the only ingredient and it puts weight on horses so well and gives them a nice shine. It comes in a powder or pellet form.

Not usually. In the morning I am always running late and just throw some various treats out to them to search for and run out the door. At night by the time I get home they aren't as interested in food so I try to to give too many treats at night so they aren't left uneaten to attract other critters.

My only concern is that rice naturally has a lot of arsenic in it. I think that rice bran and brown rice tend to have he highest levels. Amounts can vary by product and region where grown. There probably isnt a lot of testing for an animal feed made from rice by product. You don't normally eat horse, but we eat chicken products all the time. I fed rice bran to my horses years ago, but decided not to feed rice bran to my chickens. Instead maybe top dress some grains or chicken feed with good quality oils like olive, wheat germ, etc?
