Do those of you who buy King Feed in the Bay area have any problems getting it?

I had ongoing issues with getting my type of King feed from Western Feed in Davis. I couldn't get it from the Carmichael WF either. I finally wrote to King Feed and complained. They told me that Western Feed was to blame and told me that Hayes Feed in Woodland would get it for me, which is closer. Hayes said that they don't usually stock it but will get it for me. So, I went to Davis WF and told them that. They told me that Western Feed has not been paying their bill with King Feed so they are no longer getting product and don't know when they will, again. This applies to all Western Feed stores.
Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for Hayes to get it for me. So, I'm wondering if part of the problem might, in part, be with King?

The King Co. rep that I emailed had offered to bring me my order if I can't get it. They are very good about responding to any questions and concerns. I recommend that everyone having problems getting King Feed email the company. They need to know how big this problem is.

Good morning everyone. I will have kitchen pictures today! The back splash looks amazing but the sink is not a perfect match. Still better then white however!
I did not see an answer to the question of if this order would be sexed chicks. I am guessing the answer is no.

To sex chicks you need a professional sewer and that costs close to 6 figures last I saw an estimate. So unless it's a huge hatchery or an auto seeing breed you don't get that.

Chrissy is coming to pick up chicks and my vet friend is picking up his roosters! ! It will be quiet tomorrow. And i will have a kitchen again!
I would like to see the pics of the kittens and the backsplash! And PM me with what you need for me for the quail eggs so that I can to the NYD hatch! I am getting myself into a pickle with storing them when they grow out of a plastic bin, but what the heck right? Life is all about stress.

Yes, Ron and I were just talking about how hard it is to get it. It wasn't hard when they had it in stock, but they don't have it right now and haven't for at least 3 weeks. They are Western Feed. A couple of posts back I mentioned that WF told me the problem was that they had to order large amounts of all of the feed such as Horse, Rabbit, etc that they order from King and at one time. Sounds a little like hooey if you ask me but what do I know.

I will send an email to your rep and see what she says! I really want the Freedom for the chickens. They just do better on it.

The @herneco.com email is directly to King Feed or a distributor?

Good to know that someone locally has Brabanters; will make it easier to obtain : ). I will call you up about the breed I am thinking about which is a heritage breed. Will these be "sexed" chicks? I hope so...

No I am pretty sure they only offer Straight-run. They also request that you offer 2nd and 3rd choices if possible.

You are doing a good job! It has been a productive day for you.

That Boy has a crazy comb too.

Very nice flock too

ronott Thanks again for that comment. I am learning so much!

I was so happy to start the morning portion of my plan to clear up Buckbeak's back...say that 5 times fast...The Pick No More was still in place and I whisked her out of the coop this morning before Ozzie had the chance to mount her. While the Dorkings had been locked up I had a temp nesting box that I moved into the car port today. I showed it to her and then let her out to range with Norma who lays in a flower pot and my Speckled Sussex, Sweet T, who is not yet laying. Everyone has a place to lay, something to eat and a refuge from Mr. Amorous.

Tom released the Dorkings from prison yesterday p.m....they put themselves to bed and when I left this morning were still happily scratching round the run instead of the back yard. Success!!!!! They are fitting in.

Today's chicken chore is to get pics of my 4 week old SPWs and get some input from somewhere re their sex. They are making me nuts with their slllloooooowwwww maturing. I will post the pics. Breeder says feather development is slow with boys and girls so hoping to get input from other breeders and you guys too if you have some. At this point I think I have a pair but that may be wishful thinking. My little mutt continues to be super cute and still has a yellow comb and a TON of dark grey/white cuckoo feathers...a straight tail and attitude

I am really tempted to just go ahead on the MJ chicks...I am bound to have someone broody with 15+ potential candidates between 1 and 2 years old. But I am not going to risk it. A promise is a promise and I feel happy that Tom is such a great chicken helper AND that he is willing to let every broody do her thing. I don't want to take advantage of that. Now watch you all will get your Uruch chicks and I will have a coop full of broodies. It's OK though I have a lady in Oregon who is a part of ALBCs preservation project and she is going to get me eggs this spring.

Speaking of broodies...Norma who nests in a flower pot chose yesterday in a downpour to make her first broody attempt. I found her at bed time in her pot, sitting on one egg and two golf balls, hunkered down tight and soaked. Silly girl. I am willing to give her eggs but NOT in that location.

My feed store orders a pallet (forty 50# bags) of King Freedom Starter for me every month. I currently have everyone on starter and supplement the layers with extra calcium. The extra protein has made a big different as my chickens have never looked better.

Fortunately, my feed store is willing to store the extra bags in their warehouse so I only need to pick up 10 bags at a time and they order a new pallet when I pick up the last 10 bags. Works out really well.

I don't think the issue is with the King Company as I know the new shipment usually arrives within 3 days from the day it was ordered. I imagine most of the problems people are having getting King has to do with their feed stores lack of cash flow, especially if they offer multiple brands of the same product.

I would have a heart to heart with your feed store manager. Tell them the # of bags you can commit to every month which will help them plan their orders better. It is also a good idea to buy a couple extra metal garbage cans to store feed in case of emergency. I always keep a weeks worth of food on reserve. It is important to rotate the emergency stash once a month so it is fresh when you need it.

The search on King feed is by county or name of Store. Contra Costa county has two Dealers. Sonoma has one. Solano has one.

Sadly, Western Pet and Feed is losing a lot of customers with their policy. I am sure they can get in an order of just chicken feed. Jeremy in Winters said that he can get in the minimum amount of Feed at $14.00 per bag. He said that was doable since that would be 6 weeks of feed for him. The problem would be paying up front for it.
The listings for Contra Costa are both for Concord Feed. My daughter recently tried to get King Feed from the main Concord Feed store in Pleasant Hill. They told her that they were only carrying it in their San Ramon store but if she ordered it, they could have it brought in from that store. She needed the feed right away so my DH bought her a bag at Scott's Valley feed. Always call ahead before going. I happened to be in Lodi a few months ago and stopped at the Robinson's Feed to get some King Feed thus saving DH a stop at Scott's Valley on his way home. They didn't have everything that I wanted and the young girl at the counter was super rude. I was going to wait for the guy to come out from the back but noticed that there were flying bugs all around the bags of feed. In addition, there was bloody poo in their chick brooders and chicks that were obviously not feeling well.

We put the other items that we were going to purchase on the counter and walked out.

@PetRock Urch has White and Black Jersey Giants. His pdf says white Giants and Black Giants but they are Jersey Giants.
I know that he has a good reputation but he sure has lots of breeds. Do you know if he breeds all of them to SOP? I can't imagine the work involved.
