California - Northern

We are gonna hit 25 but not till 6 am. Mario stole the water heater from the mega bator to try and keep his outside fish from freezing. They are too big to come inside.
It's 40 now. I think this will be the coldest it's been since we got here. I hope the big citrus trees are ok. We only covered the bitty yuzu.

It is so cold! At work until 9pm tonight and the drive home is probably gonna be so icy! Hope our eggs aren't frozen solid in the nest box! Had to break the ice out of the chicken, goat and cat waterers this morning.
Well I thought my eggs would be cold when I gathered them tonight. But I had 3 hens in the boxes. Not broody, must be warm in there. So they eggs were WARM, ugh! How long until they start forming little embryos?

I wonder if they are starting to get annoying now, haha! The Bresse are pretty friendly. My last babies were the marans and I couldn't tame them very well. Even with mealworms, they still are pretty skid dish.
These Bresse will climb on my hand to eat anything, even though their mom is trying to teach them to run from me.

You can eat them but not hatch em.

I came home today from being on site and think I found my first muscovy duck egg!! Very excited.

It's supposed to get to 26 here just before sunrise. All my young links are in unless they are under broodies mommas. If I keep getting them I might send some to ron I will be away when they would be hatching.( hey ron! Lol) I have seen the love but have not seen the famous corkscrew boy implement yet so he might be still learning.

Ali when am I supposed to send quail eggs?

Ack! I lost track of time with the puppy. I would guess now for the NYD hatch along but it is too darn cold all this week I would think. Maybe I will have to forego this one.......?

now they say 500 feet. Penyrn is about 500-750

plus I hear rain / snow mix possible for the whole sac valley with 1-3" in Redding and Red Bluff possibly

Brrrrr. I live in Cali for a reason. I moved too close to the hills! Lol

Children never listen to their parents!

I haven't checked outside here yet but according to the news Grants Pass is 13° this morning. Bookings is at 28 so it is all over. I guess I'll be using water from the hot water tank this morning for chores. Glad I moved stupid chicken inside the coop last night, she was settled down on the outside roost when I closed everything up.

It is 22 here in my part of Santa Rosa. All my ponds are frozen.

Walt

still 28° up here on Sonoma Mtn -- but i bet all the waterers are frozen -- and it remains to be seen whether my lemon tree will survive this cold...

but the baby chicks seem to be managing to keep themselves warm! delighted to see them bouncing around in their coop...

It is 19 on two of my thermometers right now. There was a frog swimming under the ice in one of my dog water bowls on the covered front porch. I haven't been out to the birds yet, but I'm sure the duck ponds are frozen...maybe all the way down. Yesterday it was only a couple inches. This is the kind of weather that culls the weak birds here.

Survival of the fittest up here also, except I do have 2 of DD's showmanship birds housed as singles that I worry about. Her pigeons are in the garage but more for critter protection than weather.
