Well, so far my girls have decided to throw out convention in that regard. My Cream Legbar squatted first about three weeks ago -- no eggs yet. Then my Welsummer two weeks ago, and consistently thereafter -- also no eggs. My Euskal Oiloa started shortly after the Wellie, and was quickest to squat -- laid within a week. The Swedish Flower has not yet squatted and she started laying on Monday. So I don't know what to tell ya!

I have noticed that light has a large effect on Leghorn and leghorn crosses. Welsummers are also famous for holding back eggs....When will they learn that we must have those eggs!

Yes! I have chickens starting to lay this week. One of the Australorps or the Fogel pullet and my little EO Marraduna Basque hen.

I am getting a very pretty pink egg from one of them too.

you get some eggs soon I just had two pullets start up today. They are about 26 weeks. Two more are pacing and practicing the "egg song". Finally! I was at the hardware store this morning thinking about buying extension cords, lights and a timer LOL. I had one egg for dinner It was fertile, so at one of my cockerels is figuring " things" out.. My daughter is such a little hatch a holic..she was begging me to hatch the pullet eggs, LOL.

I was at the hardware store this morning thinking about buying extension cords, lights and a timer LOL. I had one egg for dinner It was fertile, so at one of my cockerels is figuring " things" out.. My daughter is such a little hatch a holic..she was begging me to hatch the pullet eggs, LOL.

Are the barnies combs very big when they start to lay? Mine are just about 27 weeks and I have lights on them but no eggs and very small combs still.

As for our rescue chicken from the neighbor's flock, it's been about three-ish weeks so far and she's just about integrated as bottom chicken. Although at first they'd chase her up the tree on sight, the original 5 have now stopped chasing her as much and they're even letting her scratch peacefully on the ground in the main garden for short periods of time. Emphasis on "as much" because they do like to give her a good chase now and again. She eschewed the coop after a couple nights and now roosts like a gargoyle atop of the flipped-open coop door (even through the rain and windstorm a couple weeks back).

Well called her Zombie Chicken, but she hardly looks the part now! And I'm happy to say that her incredibly gross smelling, septic poops

have vastly improved, for which I suspect we can thank Modesto Milling and ACV water.

You may want to. The second preliminary report from my Australorp Necropsy said she had a Bacterial infection in her lung. Further testing will determine what type.

The breathing symptoms sound like your boy but she did not have watery eyes.

So you would do treatments on everyone? What kind of treatment? Do I have to stop using eggs? We get about 20 per day. That's a lot to toss!

They don't usually get huge combs. This pullet was one that started laying today, her comb is now a little more pronounced than in this pic.
