Ditto.

Nice eggs, congrats!

If he isn't responding to an antibiotic, then I wouldn't try another one.  That tells me that whatever he has isn't bacterial.  Any other symptoms?

I've heard of roosters mating with stuffed animals and peoples feet.

Mostly with people, it's a flogging.  It happens lightening fast and can hurt too.  I had one rooster that broke a blood vessel in my leg and gave me a grapefruit size bruise.  I've had a puncture wound by the spur through jeans, by the same rooster.  This rooster was fine with my kids, fine with the DH and fine with strangers.  But for some reason, he decided I was a threat.  He was gone the day I bent down to fill a waterer and he went for my head.

HappyChooks,
Our boy has zero other symptoms.  The lack of crow and coughing is all that showed up.  The one time I thought he had a runny nose, he had just been drinking.  For a while he looked unhappy but that was it.  The unhappy look could easily have been from the new charge rooster (a Wheaten I've had since Oct that I just added to the flock - he's terribly aggressive and may go AWAY).  Because he's coughing, he's separated from the flock in a 6x6 dog kennel on our lawn.  When we toss him treats, he runs with agility.  This morning he was talking sweetly to me and clucking so maybe he is finally responding.  Last night he sounded really bad though and I kind of panicked.  Guess I'll wait the day out and see if he starts coughing again.

Try looking down his throat. Look for white lesions or other sores. It could be fungal or aspergillosis Viruses don't respond well to antibiotics either. I had aspergillosis in one of my roosters a few users ago. I got an anti fungal pill from the vet and after treating for a few weeks he got better.

So I started a mealworm farm.

I started with approximately 500 - probably a little less since there were some dead ones, but not many. I think that in the next few days I will go pick up another 500 and add them to this batch so that I'm off to a good start.

The bedding is simply yellow cornmeal mixed with oatmeal, roughly 50% of each. I took the "Old Fashioned Oats" we had up in the cupboard and threw several cups into the food processor so that they were finely ground. This way, when I eventually need to remove the mealworms from the bedding, I can just sift it through a screen or something like that.

Step 1: Acquire wormies!

Step 2: Put bedding(cornmeal/oatmeal) into container. I just opted for a cheap plastic tupperware that I found in a pack of 3 for only a couple bucks at Walmart.

Step 3: Put wormies into bedding.

After that I just put in a small slice of apple for them, and now all that's left to do is wait!

When I was 10 we had a HORRIBLE EE rooster. He wouldn't just attack, he would chase and attack.

No one believed me until my dad came to the coop with me and the rooster spurred him in the knee.

My dad kicked that rooster as hard as he could and he came back for more! My dad kicked him again, and he came right back. By the third kick he gave up. Rooster was gone that week.

I think that this is the store that I saw them in. It doesn't look like they have an online store but I bet they would take a phone order.
