all well here in the chicken pens, except that the youngest ones seem to have forgotten who i am, they are quite suspicious -- will have the ply them with treats. letting everyone out today for their first free-ranging in over a week!

Raccoons climb. A top is a good idea; a hot wire near the top is also a good idea.

My run is made of expanded metal and the top is also made of expanded metal; there are canvas covers to block the rain in winter, and I remove at least one in summer so they can sunbathe and still have some shade. Our flock consists of Dominique pullets and one Black Star hen.

All my girls were safe and sound in the coop last night, I didn't see any evidence that the raccoon was there last night, no tracks in the sand or anything. I'm sure he was out there but couldn't get into the super reinforced coop lol. My dad and I are having some trouble covering the run though, still working on it. 

Lowes has 10 10 (that might be 12x12) kennel cover kits On sale for 40 bucks right now in store.

I too love Cirque d coop.
I'm still debating on the mareks. So far the Conclusion I have come to is to leave the batches of chicks I intend to keep and vaccineate the ones I'm selling as pets locally.

I repaired one of the Small ones. This one is for small large fowl and I use this one on my Crele Penedesenca. He is going to be a Dad on New Years Day!

The collar is thee velcro strips with a breathable material glued between them. The strips are 13.75 inches long.

I had never heard of such a thing, another BYCer shared this with me.
How tight are you supposed to make it?
Is it uncomfortable?
Do they wear it all day?
I think this is worth a try on my super loud Lav Orp roo that just started crowing. We live in town and he's drawing attention to just how many backyard chickens I have!!!

They wear them all day and do not seem to mind them. It does make them quieter and one is not even crowing any more.

I am going to make one of my own today or tomorrow.
