California - Northern

I did this once after a hen jumped off the nest and I needed to warm up the incubator LOL

Made reservations at Kitchen 428! Thanks I might check out the Bistro too. Mostly I want to go to Whole Foods in Davis and bring home some of their poultry and meat. I don't get out much

I was there last Friday and was looking at their fertile eggs.....People hatch them!

The collars stay on all the time.

I hope it works for you enough to keep them with you.

The Pita Pintas do seem to me more animated.
The boys are some of the chattiest chickens that I have ever had. The girls are silent in comparison! I hear the boy crowing so I think that I have the collar too loose. Need to go adjust it. He has been glaring at me every time I go out there. I'm not top on his favorite person list right now!

They are very chattty!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

We have a small backyard operation here (we live on a 1/3 acre in a highly residential area), but DH thinks we live on a farm haha.  I'm not much for a lawn so we've turned almost all of our property into a vegetable garden or animal shelter.  Last summer we turned our entire front yard into an organic corn farm.  I think my neighbors believe we are crazy.....

For chickens we have a trio of Lav Orps, 1 blue & 1 black copper Marans, an EE, a frizzle Olive Egger, a GLW, a RIR, a Barred Rock, 6 blue Breda (only keeping 1 having to grow out to find the best girl), a Freedom Ranger meat roo that was saved from freezer camp, and a few Olive Egger (BCM over SBEL) chicks still in the brooder.
I hatched Blue Isbars,  Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Super Blue layers, & Blue Salmon Favorelles, but all my chicks were killed over the course of a few weeks by an evil opossum along with my silkies.

We also have a pair of turkeys left and I just had about 40 coturnix quail hatch over night.  And I have some ducks coming in January, thought I would give them a try  :D

This sounds like us! But we are one block out of the city limits. We are on a 1/2 acre however. We used to be able to use the easement next door for free ranging but when the neighbors took out the fence the preditors have gone nuts there.
We have Marans french muscovies rp turkeys breese orps silkies seremas cream legbars ( or will again soonish) aquaponic fish and a few projects. We do not get a TON of sun except for the hill out front and a drunk guy took that garden out recently..

My silkies also went insane! I put ours on yesterday. They are too loose but acceptable. Danny boy did not wake me up so all is right with the world.

Louie 13th ( mario can not remember his number so he renamed him) got his off twice. And clovis is still shaking. It reminds me of the hens when I put the saddles on in a few days they should be fine.

I am just sick. No livid. Sick and livid! My house sitters didn't do their job! They didn't take care of the chickens! I came home to 5 dead

The grow out pen was bone dry. No food or water in sight. The birds are desperate. It had also not been shut up the entire time. Kids say they found hawk carcass so maybe 7 dead. I can't look. I am so angry.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! It is terrible that they were neglected! Poor chickens!

I hope you can find some more responsible house sitters if you have to go away again.
