I am just sick. No livid. Sick and livid! My house sitters didn't do their job! They didn't take care of the chickens! I came home to 5 dead

The grow out pen was bone dry. No food or water in sight. The birds are desperate. It had also not been shut up the entire time. Kids say they found hawk carcass so maybe 7 dead. I can't look. I am so angry.

Oh NO! That is just awful!!!!! Your poor chickens, poor you! What a nightmare!!!!! I am fuming for you!!!

Made reservations at Kitchen 428!  Thanks I might check out the Bistro too.  Mostly I want to go to Whole Foods in Davis and bring home some of their poultry and meat.  I don't get out much

If you are going to Davis, you could maybe pick up some fertile eggs from Trader Joe's. I happen to know that particular TJ's carries them. White leghorn eggs. Fertile. Fun 'bator test, inexpensive additions to a layer flock.

Just sayin'.

It absolutely is neglect. Makes me cry to think of it. They were dying in their tracks. The grow out pen is pretty large with a nice size house. I don't know how you miss dead chickens lying about. I'm so horrified. These kids I hired (early 20s) are family. Makes it worse.

It IS awful! My 9- yr old found them when she went out to do her chores. Poor girl!

I'm beside myself. Going to make tea and try to calm down. May need a hot shower and some screaming the kids can't hear.

The chickens are all gorging on water and food. I'm afraid they're going to have heart attacks. Remember my roo that was getting better? It looks like he hasn't been fed either. The MFL had no food or water.

I just can't believe it. I hired people (cousins) who are at our house all the time and know the routine. This is just beyond me. I don't even know how to react (properly).

If you can might try having someone else also really passed but less involved deal with the housesitter. I would not even be able to say anything coherent.

I'm tickled all of a sudden. My son (13) is dealing with this the best he knows how. Since he got burial detail - I know it wasn't fun. He's out killing a pumpkin with a hatchet. Not rage mind you - just determined to free the seeds! He's feeding (his very cute painted) pumpkin to the chickens as a way of apology for what they went through. My poor kids.

Chiqita-- that sounds great! I've always wanted to do some sort of aquaponics to raise shrimp. I am horrible at little goldfish tanks so it would probably be a disaster. If you don't mind me asking, how difficult is it to maintain and how costly?
