The weather this year has been extreme everywhere. There have been record highs around where I lived in australia and people have been loosing their flocks too. Speaking of it people who have rooster collars watch for heat rash when it gets over 100. They are recommending taking them off for at least 2 hrs a day when it is over 38 c.

My boys have all loosened theirs and are crazy this morning. Time to tighten the collars and eat some spare boys!

Chiming in here to thank Ron for all his hard work and dedication on the NYD hatch-a-long! Excellent advice, calm encouragement, and right on top of all the happenings. I had hoped to join in but Mother Nature had other ideas, anything I would have ordered would have been oval ice-cubes on arrival. It was tough enough getting my eggs collected before they froze, I can only imagine what eggs from TN would have been through getting here. I was still taking cabs to get around then.

It was a great hatch a long!

Most of my advice seemed to help so that is good!

thats me.

We are working on a Penedesenca U.S.A website. It should be up soon
I am trying to get more history from Professor Francesch in Spain. He helped save the breed
then we will be up and running. I may have some of the
Crele Penedesenca x U of A blue layer 1st crosses soon.
or they will be Crele Penedesenca x Silver Ameraucana
Sounds like an exciting cross!!!

Anyone else hoping for some rain? ...

Actually, I have a leak in my roof and this dry spell is allowing me more time to work on my coop instead of my roof.

Yep, I guess there is a plus side to dry weather you can get more things done outside and don't have to trudge through mud and muck. The chickens seem to be loving the sunny days too. On the other side, we were going to work on clearing brush and thinning some trees but can't due to fire danger. It is too dry to burn brush piles. So we can't reduce fire danger for summer by brush clearing due to fire danger in the winter....now that's kind of sad. I really worry about what next summer will be like. I would stop watering our lawns if needed, but I have over 35 fruit trees plus berry bushes, the veggie garden and berry vines to water. I would hate to loose them all if our well went dry.

Eggs!

First pic is with a large store egg outside the box for comparison, and the second pic has the egg my daughter found while I was putting the store egg in the fridge (that's a piece of shredded paper...) I'm not actually sure how many days these 4 eggs represent--I've not been bothering to check. Based on the size and shade differences, I think I have at least 2 birds laying.

Definitely Curry, my GLW--she's much redder than the pic shows. My other 2 maybes are Fritatta (SLW) and Omelette (WR with Bluekote). Curry and Fritatta are my youngsters, while Omelette finished up her molt.

I don't think Souflee or Quiche are in the running--they're still pretty pale, and their combs are fairly thin.

Absolutely nobody is squatting, which is one reason I wasn't bothering to check. Every single egg was in a nestbox, though!
