California - Northern

Careful what you wish for. I hatched a bunch of breeds (not silkies) for their broody tendencies and I had 10 broodies last year.

haha hopefully not all at once! with everything I want to hatch that wouldn't be bad...unless they were all going for it at the same time. We only have 5 nest boxes

Seeing someone suffer is just heartbreaking! We are glad to know he is at peace. My poor Grandma though, they've been married for 73 years...
Even during these last years of suffering they were able to keep him at home with a home nurse. Grandma got up every morning and hand fed him his first piece of fruit. We are concerned that without the routine, she will fade. These last years have been hard on her too, so, so frail!

May I just mention that you are all the nicest group of people! Recently when we had that chicken loss - being able to vent was VERY helpful.
And not one of you said I was crazy or bad for being sad to miss the chicken show

Thank you for that. You are all so very kind..... and just a teeny bit naughty feeding my dependency

I am sorry for the loss of your Granfather

Are you going to make the relatives omelets?
LOL! Breakfast Fritata -- yummy!

Shred Yukon Gold Potatoes (yes, has to be YG) and stir with salt and Chipotle Olive Oil. Bake in the bottom of the 9x13
Meanwhile,
Brown some yummy sausage or bacon
Chop sweet red and orange bell peppers
Cut baby tomatoes in half
Whip the eggs with appropriate seasonings

Layer sausage and veggies on top of the potatoes. Top with chunks of feta, smoked mozerella or any other yummy cheese (we use a lot of feta). Poor on eggs. Place tomatoes on top. Bake until done. Serve with Avocado to treat the Ohio family to a slice of CA!

This freezes well. I'm going to make 5. They will each take about 18 eggs as I'm using lasagna pans.
Good thing the hens are laying!

Thank you for the recipe!

I asked because my Irish relatives always get together for Breakfast at things like Funerals and reunions. Sad but it is good to see them again. It was culture shock for my DW when first married. Easter had 40 to 60 "close" relatives. By close I mean up to Third Cousins...

We must think we're Irish! It is most certainly a culture shock for people raised in normal sized families. The noise factor alone is hard on unaccustomed nerves. Well, sometimes even my nerves. In July we had a couple cousins over. 18 kids total. I did not invite my cousin with 7 boys that time.

I don't get to count 3rd cousins...according to some in my family, 3rd cousins are fair game for marriage so they don't count. Thank goodness! We have 100 with the first cousins and their children alone. No, they will not all be in one spot. Our church family is opening doors to those out of state so that we don't bear the whole burden of that crowd!

I have never been to the Stockton show (or any show, for that matter.) Will they have a ton of chickens for sale? (I need to know so that I can start praying for willpower!)

Yes there will be chickens for sale there.

There is a pre sales thread somewhere.

@juststruttin posted the link.

I just candled my eggs! Day 7. I think 9 of 12 look good. Maybe...?

2 of the eggs I'm not sure (couldn't see much development if any) and 1 was super weird! It had a squiggly line going through the whole diameter of the egg??

Some of them looked like the area of development was more then the others. I'm not too sure on what I'm looking for really. I did see a little peanut looking thing jumping around in some of them that looked like all the videos I've watched for day 7. Anyway I put them all back and added more water in the center well (there was still a little) and closed the lid so it can warm back up.

Is it true I should have the temp at 102 for a still incubator (no fan)? Everywhere else I've read said 100 and that is what I have mine at.

The line might be a Blood line. That is a dead egg. Watch it though.

The top and bottom need to average 99.5 for a still air. 101.5 at the top and 99 on the bottom would work. Did I give you the Chooks Chicks guide to still air incubation link?
