California - Northern

last spring I hatched out a Buff Orp mutt chick and now she is broody! She is my uncle and aunt's and I am kinda sorta totally excited about it. They live right behind us so I am going to be helping advising etc. First on the agenda is to candle the eggs she is on see if any of them are fertile.
She has been on the nest about 10 days so I should be able to see stuff for sure!
That is exciting! I have been wondering when I can expect my hens to start getting broody again and thought that I would need to wait longer. Hearing about this gives me hope that it can happen soon.

Good luck with your candling!

Normally they go broody after the Spring laying season.

get a bunch of golf balls(5 or 6) and add them to the nest box. That will often get one to go broody.

My boss wants some hatching eggs.
anyone have Blue Copper Marans and Basque laying?
I pm'd Meg on the Basques.
he is in social so I would just give him your number or email.
hopefully someone that ships but I could also do it probably.
I have Basque (pictures on my site). I already pre-sold the basque eggs for pick up at the stockton show, but I can start collecting for him after the show for shipment next week of the first week in Feb.

Yep, they are developing eggs from the reproductive track of a 10 month old Freedom Ranger pullet. I was impressed by the number of eggs. It is hard to see, but there are hundreds of nodules. Fascinating.

What you have posted is the perfect answer to those that think giving hens light in the winter will make them run out of eggs:
