Unfortunately,  my pullet is an egg eater and I have not been able to collect any eggs.  Urg....   I need to build her a roll out nest box so I can get some darn eggs.

That reminds me, has anyone bought any of the $10 egg rolling nest boxes off of craigslist?  The seller is in Santa Rosa.  I was just wondering if they work well.

I wonder if these are homemade.  Too bad he didn't include a picture.  $10 for a nestbox is a great price...but a little too far away for me.

And on a side note....I was a bit amused when I ran the spell check before sending this reply.  When it got to Juststruttin's name, the first correction option was "castrating".  Not sure how it came up with that one!  :lau

Has anyone tried these? http://www.flemingoutdoors.com/roll-out-tray-with-flap-for-chickbox.html

I think they can be used to modify regular wood nest boxes into rollout nests.

I saw those yesterday and they look pretty cool.  They look like they are to use with the nests on thre same page.  Those are pretty pricey though.  I couldn't use them  because my nests boxes are attached to the elevated coop and have access from outside the coop.

I was thinking of using the rollout inserts to modify wooden nest boxes and then add a trapnesting front. That way the " trapped" hen doesn't trample the egg. I don't have room in my coops for enough of the extra deep style of trapnests.

here is a hovabator in LA, but no turner. Could be shipped not expensivly if they are up to it.

Good deal but it is the older model without the top controls, temperature sensor and hygrometer built in.

( I am being good and not posting the GFQ hatcher and incubator set for 500 I found...)
This one might be a hovabator, looking at it from the botton

Now to get the chicken poop out of my hair!
Not worth it--Analog wafer technology.

I've heard it is hard to get your birds to lay in those trays if they are used to bedding in their nests.

I bought two 8 unit setups that utilized those roll out trays for a different coop due to Blue Jay issues but have not installed them yet. I am thinking the birds may start laying on the floor instead.

He looks great. I finally gave in and put one of his brothers in a pen with my only Brabanter girl.

I swore I was not going to work on another breed, but I really like the Brabanters. I originally hatched eggs from MissMolly for pasture ornaments, but their cuteness got the best of me.

Oh my goodness!!! One girl and she ends up being an egg eater? Of all the luck! No wonder these birds are rare! Good luck getting eggs - I hope your solution works

) some girlfriends! I'm just trying to keep it down to 5 or 6 breeds I really like and be happy with that. It's really unfortunate that this breed is so pretty!

@juststruttin -on the above post: are you sure she's an egg eater? I swore up and down my hens were. I put a video camera in the catch who's doing it and cull. To my surprise…It was a blue Scrub Jay! He would break a hole in them, take a sip, and leave. All day long he was breaking them. The hens would clean up the left overs. I wouldn't have believed it, but I got the video to show me
Yes, she was living in with my Bresse and I was having issues in that pen and now that she no longer lives in there the problem is solved. I am kinda relieved, I thought one of the Bresse was the culprit.

I moved her to a pen with a Brabanter Rooster and have not gotten any eggs since, but I have found shells and yolk evidence.

Then her next hatch she went 3/5...all cockerels AGAIN!!!
NO WAY!!

I wonder. Does anyone know. Are chickens like people in that the boy determines gender? I have noticed my Dark Brahma x AM EE's are a higher percentage males vs the BR EE's. We shall see what the Brabanter and GLW throw.
