I use Conklin Fastrack. Mine has been in the fridge for a year. I was told it should be fine, maybe use a little more. Opinions???

It's fine. You can use all you want. It can only do good! Do you have the liquid dispersable? I love this product. Used it for other animals for years and really happy with the results for chickens too. Its not real common to find people in CA that use it. How did you learn about it?

I had a broody hatch last summer and there were 2 banty chicks in that clutch. The broody raised them and they all did fine together. In fact, one of those chicks is now laying and has gone broody. IF the hatch is staggered the broody abandoning still might be an issue though. I had one clutch that I let the broody hatch some and the did some in the bator. The bator chicks hatched first and I just added them to her clutch after the broody eggs hatched and they all did fine too...

Hello. I'm brand new to this thread. Im a first time BYC person but have reading a lot in the last 6 months we've owned our new house in the mountains, Forest Ranch (12 miles north of Chico, CA). I started with 6 chicks. Three Rhode Island Reds and three Barred Rocks from the local feed store here in Chico. The Reds seem to get the pasty butt thing as I've cleaned them off every couple days since I've gotten them on Friday but the BR's have been super clean. In the latest pictures they were alittle frightened with the. Camera in their faces. Can anyone tell by the pictures how old they might be? I'm thinking around ten days or maybe two weeks as I'm unsure how old they were when I got them.

There is a small grit called chick grit. Give them some free choice. Feeding them scrambled eggs and a bit of plain yogurt helps with pasty butt. I might try some liquid B vitamins--just a drop on the beak twice a day.

They are very cute!

Oh and be careful with straw. It can harbor mites and if it gets wet is a source of black mold(aspergillus)

Wholy cow I must sound like that came from left field. I cannot believe how long this thread is and it started back in 2007. OMG. Person I was responding to, probably doesn't even post here anymore.

This thread goes like gangbusters. Sometimes I miss an entire day and 20 pages have gone by. Entire conversations and countries are changed in the course of a day on this thread.

Theron99.....welcome to the thread! You are very close to me. I am in Paradise. If you don't mind me asking, what feed store did you get them from? I'm not good at judging age so I will leave that for others. .

Now I don't know whether you are teasing me or not. All the eyebrows are WAY up. Rules? We have rules? If so, I'm probably breaking them right and left. I tend to discover them after I've committed the faux pas.

I know that you are kidding, but just in case someone does want something like this (or anything) built, my husband is a licensed general contractor. He built them.
