California - Northern

Hello!  I'm new here and I live in far northern CA, near Eureka.

Does anyone else live in the area?  I'm trying to find people to talk to about how to find/buy older pullets/young hens locally.  And just to chat with, of course!

Welcome, great people and looks of tempting birds on this thread. If you're building-build big!

I'm about 4 hours away from everywhere, Redding, Salem, Arcata... Bigger cities=longer road trips.

Berkeley has a place that does workshops on stuff like that. Give them a call to see if they have something.

Well....free is free!

you can get a free one from the Government if you are a farmer but then that gives them another excuse for them to check on you land be in your business lol

Hi Laura,

You can come to my house in about 3.5 weeks to learn. We will have 30+ roosters ready. Poor boys. I am hoping to find homes for some of them before then but I certainly cannot keep feeding brutes. Most are Orpingtons so they are getting mighty big.

Anyone else who wants to come to learn is welcome. The more the merrier. I am in Novato.

Olandsk dwarfs. I will ouch forward working on humidity and temps.... Sorting hens .... Watching the picky rooster...

They are seriously cold hardy. Completely non aggressive and accepting to juvies, look beautiful against the snow, AND their feed to egg ratio is exceptional!

How bout the empordensa ? Are they the white or black?

I have heard the olandsk can not take really any heat. wonder if thats why.

Empordanesa are very food thrifty as well. Big combs though. Very alert and lay dark eggs,
I have white which along with a few other flocks are it here in the US.
I want to bring over Blue tail buff if i can get the import worked out.
