Wow, I'm like 350+ posts behind on this thread. Congrats on all the new chicks for those who have had losses

We have been busy lately. My husband recently bid on and won an auction for 40,000+lbs of natural paving stones for patios and walk ways for an amazing low price. Transporting, loading and unloading wasn't easy. But, now we have enough stone to keep us busy with home improvement projects for years, LOL. I also am now the owner of a horse for the first time in around 12 years. Our barn ( yet another project) is not finished yet, so we have her boarded at a stable for now.

My second hatch of Barnevelders this year is due in a few days. I am going to set another bunch of eggs and hopefully a few duck eggs next week for my daughter's kindergarden class. The classroom incubator broke, so I offered the use of mine.

Does anyone in the Redding, Red Bluff, Chico areas have about 6 fertile duck eggs available next week?

Edited to add: If I can find someone with duck eggs to offer, they can get the ducklings back after the classroom hatch if they want them

Twp more dead for a total of 8 and my spraddle leg one is dying now. i dont think its the heat. thats killing them but idj what else could be

I'm so sorry you are going through all this heartbreak.
I've been through this as well. We ordered dark Brahma bantams, SLWBs and d'anvers 3 times a few years ago. Out of the 40 chicks we ordered only 9 survived and most were boys. Some breeds are just to fragile to ship especially this early in the year, they can get chilled so easily. Our local feed store will not order bantams until mid March, the bantam chicks don't make it here alive. It is so sad and we felt so helpless!. I understand the push to order early so they are feathered out for fair but sometimes it just doesn't work out and they go with some pin feathers! I hope yours turn the corner and now start to thrive!

I have not heard from her in quite some time but she may have the coveted Silver Appleyard Duck eggs.

I have a friend who would like to hatch Dorkings. She currently has backyard mixes but would like to start hatching heritage birds.

Is there anyone in California who has Dorkings? The closer to Central Ca (Modesto) the better.

I just got an email from Premier:

" I'm sorry that you had a problem with the stand. We agree that it needs to to be made stronger
but the company that makes them will not change. We have searched for a better one but there are none to be found. Premier is working on a new version but will not be out until this fall.
I can send you a replacement or I can refund you for the one you have ."

So, as usual, they do have great customer service. Those of you wanting one may want to wait until Fall, for the new version. Or, this could be am opportunity for someone to make & market a heat lamp stand that is sturdy!

I have had personal experience with Premier & yes, they have wonderful customer service. They totally replaced my order with the newly engineered one they were waiting for. Unfortunately the design had the same problem & I wasn't able to us them either. It was the auto waterer for my brooders. You drill a hole in a jug & put the drinker cup in & it automatically keeps the little cup filled with water. The chciks would dirty the water & it would back wash into the mechanism & stay open releasing all the water into the brooder. I was using gallon jugs, the thick ones you get orange juice in. What a mess I killed a whole brooder of chicks that got soaked. They were VERY nice & I did report back to them that the new design had the same problem as they had asked me to.

Thanks I sent her a PM. Hopefully I can find some. Apparently the ducklings are quite the " stars" every year in the teacher's classroom. I hatched chicks 3 times before for pre-school, kindergarten, and first grade classrooms. The kids are just thrilled to see them hatch
