Thanks I sent her a PM. Hopefully I can find some. Apparently the ducklings are quite the " stars" every year in the teacher's classroom. I hatched chicks 3 times before for pre-school, kindergarten, and first grade classrooms. The kids are just thrilled to see them hatch

What type of Dorkings?

This is going to sound ignorant but...

She was reading in Mother Earth News that Dorkings are good dual-purpose chickens but are endangered. So, her only criteria are: endangered Dorking, dual-purpose, clean legged. Color and comb type are unimportant.

Wow, I'm like 350+ posts behind on this thread. Congrats on all the new chicks

for those who have had losses

We have been busy lately. My husband recently bid on and won an auction for 40,000+lbs of natural paving stones for patios and walk ways for an amazing low price. Transporting, loading and unloading wasn't easy. But, now we have enough stone to keep us busy with home improvement projects for years, LOL. I also am now the owner of a horse for the first time in around 12 years. Our barn ( yet another project) is not finished yet, so we have her boarded at a stable for now.

My second hatch of Barnevelders this year is due in a few days. I am going to set another bunch of eggs and hopefully a few duck eggs next week for my daughter's kindergarden class. The classroom incubator broke, so I offered the use of mine.

Does anyone in the Redding, Red Bluff, Chico areas have about 6 fertile duck eggs available next week?

Edited to add: If I can find someone with duck eggs to offer, they can get the ducklings back after the classroom hatch if they want them

shes almost never on BYC. Check her fb page.. PM me if it dosnt pop up under her ranch name. have not seen ehre there much either, but i bet she checks more.

I have a friend who would like to hatch Dorkings. She currently has backyard mixes but would like to start hatching heritage birds.

Is there anyone in California who has Dorkings? The closer to Central Ca (Modesto) the better.

nik if you do a wanted ad on CL you may be able to find silkies, they are pretty common. You can take roosters right? I KNOW I have some good quality silkie roosters that could stand to be shown, and would be old enough to show this year. At least one splash boy. We are back to the question of how to get them to you, however! How far out in he middle of nowhere are you? and when are the actual shows you are going for?

The eggs are the 19 out of 24 set Delaware egg that I am hatching for @capayvalleychick

I hope they wait until tomorrow to hatch....Of course they will hatch at 2 in the morning. This time the Genesis is sitting on my Bathroom sink.

It could be a long night but exciting!

Any ideas on whether they are more likely to co-raise if they both have some chicks they consider 'theirs" or would it be better for the chicks for them all to "belong" to the Wyandotte?

I would give each hen chicks. If they want to co brood them they will, but this way there are less sad hens. Also make sure you do not have a chick stealer ! many of my silkies are notorious for this.

we lost twp more silkies one is the one i was babying earlier. thats now 6 birds in less then 24 hours. my mom is going to call cackle in ghe morning. what the hell am i doing wrong? the waterers and feeders were scrubbed clean, wood chips taken out,news paper replaced,heat is staying between 95-99 (the care sheet that came with them said for slightly higher temps for bantams) ive done everything right and they are still dying

I'm so sorry your little ones didn't make it. I really don't think it is anything you are doing wrong. If they were too chilled during shipping there is likely nothing you can do, but give them support. Sometimes the damage is already done and can't be repaired, but you won't necessarily know which ones can be saved and which ones can't. All you can do is try to help them all and hopefully save the ones that werent too far gone. Some may have been ables to stay more bunched together than others so they did not get as cold.

Congrats!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the Mottled AMs! I have a deep love for black and white birds!
