Oh and I hucked the clips as they rust and I don't want that bacteria in there after a day or so the mesh sits to the trey anyways

I bought a big pack of regular paper clips--I use new ones for each hatch.

My clips rusted right away, too. Might have to send the company an email about that! I haven't had any problems not using the clips except for the one time I hatched quail. They were able to get down under the screen and get into the water troughs. I would have lost some if I hadn't been watching them closely. I guess sometimes it pays to be obsessive!

I am so hoping that it is dry on Saturday! George and I started working 1 1/2 weeks ago on a new mini coop for the Pita Pintas. Since he is only home on weekends, our time to work on projects is limited. I'm anxious to have it finished so I can close them in the aviary for the first part of the day and actually know which eggs are pure Pita Pinta. Here are some pics of the work in progress.

it looks fabulous!

this afternoon I went ahead and candled my shipped cream legbar eggs, since today is Day 22 and no sign of any pips -- and they all look like they stopped developing around day 14 or so. so, that's a bit disappointing -- although at least i know it wasn't operator error with the incubator, since the six eggs from my own flock all hatched beautifully and right on schedule.

but at least i have six sweet little chicks! they are all sleeping under their Ecoglow this evening...

Nice how big is it? You may be planning it but I would add ventilation towards the top on one side lower on another

Thank you and congrats on the 6! I know how disappointing it is to not have any hatch. I set 30 some shipped Langshan eggs last year along with some farm mixes. Not a single Langshan egg even made it to lock down but almost all of my farm mixes hatched. It was so disappointing!

Has anyone heard that kiln dried shavings are toxic? i guess the drying process release phenols that are toxic if ingested. Read it on FB. Never had a problem with shavings before, but need to know this stuff. Is this true?
You must be on the BC Marans group too!

It is only 3 x 5 x 6 in the front. It is only for my 7 PP girls to sleep in and hopefully lay their eggs in. It would be better to have it a little bigger but they only sleep and lay in the coop. They are in a dog igloo right now and things are tight! We are going to drill big holes then cover them with hardware cloth in the front at the top and the back which is 1 ft lower. I might add a screened opening towards the top on the sides, also. We cut the little door just the right size for an automatic door that will be added in the future. This one is going together well thanks to the new tools I gave DH for Christmas! We might end up moving it out to the farm for a breeding coop and building a slightly bigger one for our aviary. I love chicken projects!!!
