California - Northern

It is only 3 x 5 x 6 in the front.  It is only for my 7 PP girls to sleep in and hopefully lay their eggs in.  It would be better to have it a little bigger but they only sleep and lay in the coop.  They are in a dog igloo right now and things are tight!   We are going to drill big holes then cover them with hardware cloth in the front at the top and the back which is 1 ft lower.  I might add a screened opening towards the top on the sides, also.  We cut the little door just the right size for an automatic door that will be added in the future.  This one is going together well thanks to the new tools I gave DH for Christmas!  We might end up moving it out to the farm for a breeding coop and building a slightly bigger one for our aviary.  I love chicken projects!!!
That's plenty big as long as they have a big area to roam. I have. 7 empordanesa in a coop that size now they are in a 22x 36 run though

Our lot is almost 1/3 acre and is pie shaped with a small house & small front yard. They have the whole backyard except for the fenced off garden to roam during the day.

I am so hoping that it is dry on Saturday! George and I started working 1 1/2 weeks ago on a new mini coop for the Pita Pintas. Since he is only home on weekends, our time to work on projects is limited. I'm anxious to have it finished so I can close them in the aviary for the first part of the day and actually know which eggs are pure Pita Pinta. Here are some pics of the work in progress.

Looks great! Hope you have dry weather too. I know we need the rain, but I am ready for a few days break too..

My clips rusted right away, too.  Might have to send the company an email about that!  I haven't had any problems not using the clips except for the one time I hatched quail.  They were able to get down under the screen and get into the water troughs.  I would have lost some if I hadn't been watching them closely.  I guess sometimes it pays to be obsessive!

And THAT is why I use cups like ron. Quail drown in anything.

Awww....so sorry they CL's didn't hatch. I am starting to feel like I did great with my shipped eggs getting 12 chicks from 33 eggs..
This is making me think that I should take a road trip to Dunsmuir to pick up my eggs Chickengirl1304! Have you had reports back on hatch rates from your shipped eggs? I don't have much faith in USPS these days!

. Great minds must think alike!
I read it wrong. I thought she said make sure they aren't. But here is the quote "make sure your pine shavings are kiln dried. The drying process release phenols that are toxic if ingested." So i interpreted that the kiln drying releases the toxins all around. Thank you for pointing that out.

Regular roasting will work for a 19 week cockerel.

By Regular I mean at 325 to 350. Younger birds can be roasted at 400 to 425.

Recipes for older birds:

Thank you Thank you Thank YOU! Going to have to buy a pressure cooker
mottles are project. Chicken. That is a lot more work.

Look up Thomas Keller roast chicken yum!

So excited I might get one or two! I have pinned the recipe Thanks so much chiqita!

When do I need to set turkey eggs for the Cinco de Mayo hatchalong and do you have some if I decide to do it?

That should work great! Just let me know when you are coming up and I can probably meet you in Chico with them.
OK...just figured out that I will be away from the last weekend in March to the first Sunday in April. These little will be like 6 weeks old then right? Is it OK if I wait that long?? I don't want to leave the care of youngsters to someone else.

I have just decided to sell or process my quail and stick with chickens!
It feels go to make decisions congratulations to you.
